Había en Jerusalén, en el templo de Salomón, un patio exterior donde eran admitidos los paganos atraídos por la religiosidad judía. Era el atrio de los gentiles. Allí conversaban los creyentes con aquellos que desconocían a Dios pero lo buscaban.
Benedicto XVI, animado por ese espíritu de coloquial acercamiento y deseoso de intensificar el diálogo con el mundo de hoy, ha tendido la mano, sin miedo a contaminarse, a quienes no piensan igual ni creen lo mismo. Así ha surgido “El Atrio de los Gentiles”, reunión de personas que contemplan la vida de puntos de vista muy distintos, algunas desde la fe y la razón, pero otras no. El primer encuentro de esta iniciativa vaticana se ha celebrado en 2011 en París, organizado por el Consejo Pontificio de la Cultura. Su cardenal presidente dijo que una propuesta como la del atrio debería ser un espacio normal en la actividad pastoral de cada diócesis.
Cuánto beneficiaría a la diócesis de Jaca uno de estos atrios. Nuestra diócesis actualmente tiene, entre sus objetivos, uno importantísimo: conceder prioridad a la pastoral juvenil, lo que requiere acentuar la importancia de la juventud y los alejados. Sí, muchos jóvenes se han distanciado... y no poco. A más de uno ya le hablarían de Jesucristo, pero no consiguieron hacérselo ver. Quizá no hallen, entre los adultos, conductas ejemplares que les sirvan de modelo. Para ellos son los Cursillos de Cristiandad. Un atrio aquí podría ser la mejor antesala de un cursillo.
Desde que estos cursillos nacieron en España, muchos cambios ha habido en la sociedad. El Estado, entonces oficialmente católico, ahora es aconfesional. Convivimos con paganos, agnósticos, indiferentes, ateos, descreídos… Cada vez extraña menos que un niño bautizado comparta pupitre con uno musulmán o que los testigos de Jehová llamen a la puerta con insistencia. Corremos el riesgo de confundir el cristianismo con una oferta más en el supermercado de las religiones, y no. En estos tiempos de nueva evangelización, cuando ha germinado “El Atrio de los Gentiles”, dichos cursillos son imprescindibles.
El Papa, que se expresa con palabras comprensibles por todos y que se hace entender muy bien, es capaz de entusiasmar a intelectuales de alto nivel y de apasionar a las gentes más sencillas. Por esto, su brillante idea sobre los gentiles puede arraigar en cualquier rincón de la geografía católica. Tienen que edificarse atrios henchidos de claridad, llenos de sol. Dios quiera que cada uno de ellos sea el vestíbulo luminoso que invita a adentrarse en el hogar, para que el recién llegado descubra la Luz que le estaba esperando en esta casa acogedora que es la Iglesia.
