Llaman la atención, en primer lugar los datos históricos que Lucas nos quiere presentar intencionadamente en el relato del nacimiento de Jesús: Augusto, Cirino, el censo general que se había ordenado realizar… Todo nos sitúa en un ambiente concreto, en un momento especial de la historia de la humanidad: el día que nació el Sol de justicia, el Mesías esperado por todos.
Aquél día cambió la historia; se habían cumplido las promesas realizadas en el Antiguo Testamento; una pareja joven se dirigía a la ciudad de Belén para inscribirse allí en el censo; como si fuera una casualidad, pero todo profetizado según las escrituras.
Aquél primogénito fue envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre; presagio de lo que sería toda su vida: sencillez, humildad y entrega. No hubo coronas de reyes, ni festejos en honor del recién nacido. Todo ocurría al modo divino: sin espectáculos, sin boato, sin llamar la atención.
Solo unos pastores que velaban por su rebaño fueron los primeros que recibieron esa buena noticia; un ángel del Señor se les presentaba con gloria y les comunicaba que había nacido el Mesías, que sus expectativas habían sido cumplidas: ¡Qué paradoja que el nacimiento del Buen Pastor fuese conocido por los que cuidaban de sus rebaños!
Un niño recién nacido, envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre… La promesa se había cumplido: lo que Dios había prometido desde el pecado de Adán y Eva había tomado en este día carne. Había acampado entre los hombres el Mesías prometido.
Aquella legión de ángeles entonaba un cántico de alabanza para el recién nacido: ¡Gloria a Dios, paz a los hombres que Dios ama! Comenzaba la Buena Noticia, comenzaba el Evangelio que es Cristo y que quiso hacerse uno de nosotros, para hacernos hijos de Dios.
¡Dichosos los ojos que visteis y contemplasteis tanta hermosura! ¡Dichosos nosotros que hemos recibido tal anuncio y lo hemos acogido como nuestra salvación!
