HOMILÍA
Celebra hoy la Iglesia la fiesta del Bautismo de Jesús. En estos días pasados, hemos contemplado a un Jesús recién nacido, adorado por los pastores y los magos de oriente. Desde este domingo, vamos a ver a un Jesús, ya adulto, que comienza a predicar, a hacer milagros, a mostrarse como lo que realmente es, después de haber pasado treinta años escondido en Nazaret, dedicado a su trabajo, siendo un vecino más, sin que nadie notara nada extraordinario ni en sus palabras ni en sus hechos. Con esta festividad, damos un salto en el tiempo y nos disponemos a ser oyentes de Jesús gracias a las palabras que escribió el evangelista San Mateo.
La primera lectura la hemos tomado del profeta Isaías. Nos ha hablado de un misterioso personaje que responde al nombre de “Siervo de Yavé” y que parece ser una copia bastante fidedigna de lo que fue Jesús. Nos ha dicho que este siervo traerá el derecho a las naciones, que no quebrará la caña cascada y que no apagará el pábilo vacilante, signos que en la antigüedad indicaban la próxima ejecución de alguien; que será luz de las naciones, que abrirá los ojos de los ciegos y que sacará de la prisión a quienes están encerrados en ella. Jesús abrirá físicamente los ojos de muchos ciegos pero también abrirá los ojos del alma para que muchos le reconozcan como el Mesías esperado. Y Él sacará de la prisión del pecado y del mal a quienes están en ella.
La segunda lectura la hemos tomado del libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles. Hemos escuchado palabras del Apóstol Pedro que da por hecho y por sentado que conocen el acontecimiento que les recuerda. Todo se inició, viene a decirles, cuando Jesús fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán y comenzó una andadura que puede resumirse en esa frase que, para nosotros quisiéramos, que se pudiera decir el día de nuestra muerte: “Pasó por la vida haciendo el bien y curando a los oprimidos por el diablo porque Dios estaba con Él.” Hagamos todo lo posible para que también, de cada uno de nosotros, se pueda decir un día: “Pasó por la vida haciendo el bien”.
El relato breve del evangelio de San Mateo nos ha recordado el hecho mismo de ese Bautismo de Jesús que va a partir en dos su vida. Antes, él es uno más entre sus paisanos de Nazaret. Después, va a dar rienda suelta a todo ese amor que lleva en su corazón hasta dar la vida en la cruz. Recordemos, en este día, nuestro propio bautismo. Es verdad que no fuimos conscientes de él en su momento porque éramos muy pequeños, pero hoy podemos aceptarlo y comprometernos a vivir como bautizados, como cristianos dispuestos a seguir los pasos de ese Jesús que pasó por la vida haciendo el bien, de ese Jesús que no vino a ser servido sino a servir y a dar su vida en rescate por todos.
