Queridos amigos:
Hay llamadas durante el tiempo de la Navidad que nos llenan de buenos deseos y de mensajes continuados. En ningún tiempo del año nuestro deseo de “paz” es tan grande como en las vísperas y en los días navideños.
En la raíz de estos deseos puede haber un protocolo, una costumbre… pero siempre hay un deseo sincero, cuya raíz está mucho más allá de las convicciones religiosas personales. En el fondo de todo está la imagen de un Dios que entra en nuestras vidas en son de “paz”, haciéndose niño, cuya fragilidad es tan pequeña que no sabe decir ni hacer nada aparentemente valioso. Este hecho central de la fe cristiana ha convertido la Navidad en símbolo y llamada a despertar en nosotros al “niño” que somos y al que apenas dejamos de nacer.
La consigna de nuestra forma de vivir es esforzarnos por exhibir resultados, habilidades, certezas indiscutibles. Nos exigimos demasiado unos a otros: perfección, rendimiento, imagen, superioridad. Apenas comenzamos a crecer, aprendemos a temernos unos a otros más que a amar, que es lo único para lo que hemos nacido.
Queremos ser adultos libres, y terminamos esclavos de mil leyes que sin estar escritas en ninguna parte, las hacemos sagradas. No sabemos querernos, pero hemos de cuidar al máximo cómo vestirnos, cómo hablar y presentarnos ante los otros, cómo actuar «correctamente» según lo establecido, cómo dar buena imagen. Ahogamos la vida, y luego aprendemos a considerar como normal el vivir atados al deber diario, realizado sin amor ni ilusión alguna.
La Navidad nos invita a despertar lo que queda en nosotros de ese «niño» que fuimos, capaces de admirar, acoger y amar de manera espontánea y con gozo el regalo de la vida diaria.
Siempre hay en nosotros un rincón olvidado en el que todavía no hemos dejado de ser niños. Somos frágiles y lo sabemos: necesitamos protección. No acertamos a vivir solos, y lo sabemos: necesitamos querer a alguien y que alguien nos quiera. Cometemos errores, y lo sabemos: necesitamos bendición. Este es el mensaje de la Navidad para todos: sólo salva el amor encarnado en la fragilidad de nuestra existencia. Como creyentes celebremos estos días el fundamento y la raíz de esa verdad: sólo salva un Dios que ama infinitamente al ser humano y se encarna entre nosotros en ese Niño de Belén.
Dejemos que la luz de Jesús recién nacido ilumine nuestros hogares y nos llene de amor y paz.
