(Jn 6,51-59.) Difícil de digerir la palabra que hoy dirige Jesús a los judíos tomadas al pie de la letra; y de esa literalidad viene el asombro de los que le escuchaban: ¿cómo puede este darnos a comer su carne?
El amor de Dios es absoluto y para siempre, de tal manera que podemos recordarlo, actualizarlo y revivirlo cada vez que comemos el Cuerpo de Cristo; participar de la vida del Mesías, hacerse uno con el Dios que se ha hecho uno de nosotros y formar parte de la vida eterna a la que Dios nos ha convocado; palabras que nos recuerdan una vez más la Encarnación del Hijo de Dios.
La sangre para el pueblo judío era la vida, el cuerpo era el medio de comunicarse con los demás, por eso resultaba muy extraño el que Jesús dijera que entregaba su propia vida, que todo lo que tenía y lo que era se lo daba gratuitamente. Por eso, el Evangelio habla de "comer la carne y beber la sangre". Habla de "vivir en mí y yo en él". Habla de "tener vida eterna" y de "vivir para siempre".
Comer su Cuerpo y beber su Sangre es crear una comunidad con Él, hacerse partícipe de sus mismos sentimientos y de su misma misión; es dejar que Cristo habite en nuestra propia vida y ser capaz de transmitirlo a los demás. En definitiva eso es participar plenamente de la Eucaristía: alimentarse de Cristo.
Esa sangre que brotó del costado es la misma que nos abre a la vida eterna, según las palabras del evangelista; su carne, entregada por nosotros, nos alimenta y nos da fuerza en el camino para ser sus apóstoles, sus mensajeros, sus testigos.
Y del mismo modo que Cristo y el Padre son uno, todo aquél que se alimenta de Jesús forma un solo cuerpo con Él. Este evangelio nos habla de comunidad, de crear comunión con Dios, de ser capaces, por un momento, de amar como Él ama.
Ya no hablamos de lo que hemos oído a nuestros padres, del famoso maná que alimentó durante cuarenta años en el desierto al pueblo de Israel; ya somos nosotros los que experimentamos en nuestra propia vida la suerte de formar unidad con Cristo. Y es que el que come de este pan vive para siempre.
Hoy podemos ser uno de esos judíos que no entendieron las palabras de Jesús y se extrañaban de que les mandara a beber su sangre; o podemos tener una actitud de agradecimiento y ver en su Cuerpo y su Sangre la entrega generosa y continua que Él mismo nos hace.
