DOMINGO XVIII TIEMPO ORDINARIO
(Mt 14,13-21) Después de la muerte de Juan, Jesús quiere tranquilidad, seguro para llorar la muerte del que fue su primo y su Precursor; y es que no podemos olvidar la verdadera humanidad de Jesús; llora, por la muerte de sus seres queridos, y en el relato de este evangelio, siente lástima y se compadece de los que le seguían y no tenían nada que comer.
Allí atiende a la gente que acude a Él, con su actitud típica de servicio y de entrega generosa; allí da respuesta a los afanes y necesidades de los que le rodeaban, enfermos, hombres, mujeres y niños.
Pero ya se hacía tarde; era necesario que la gente se fuera marchando para dejar de nuevo tranquilo al Maestro y los discípulos, para disfrutar de nuevo de la paz y de la soledad; aunque el modo de actuar de Jesús no es el mismo que el de los discípulos. No es el mismo, porque la primera intención de sus apóstoles es dejarlos marchar, lógico, por otra parte. No tenían nada más que darles, les habían curado, les habían explicado las Escrituras… ¿Qué más querían?
Pero esa compasión insistente de Jesús hace que los discípulos se queden perplejos al pedirles que ellos mismos les den de comer. Nada tenían aparte de esos pocos cinco panes y dos peces. ¡A poco iban a coger! Y es que aún no acabaron de comprender la intención de Jesús.
Solemos acordarnos del sacramento de la eucaristía a raíz de este evangelio; y así podría ser en esta ocasión también; pero quizá podríamos imaginarnos también que aquella pobre gente necesitaba lo básico para vivir: el alimento. Habían recibido la curación de su enfermedad, habían acudido con esperanza al Maestro… Ahora a los discípulos les tocaba alimentar sus necesidades básicas.
Tendríamos que aprender esta lección de ese Jesús que se hace solidario de los que pasan hambre, de los que están cansados del camino, de los enfermos, de los que buscan y no acaban de encontrar luz y sentido para sus vidas. “Dadles vosotros de comer”. Acercaos a la gente y alimentadlos, satisfaced lo que piden para vivir dignamente: la cultura, el cuidado de los enfermos, la preocupación por la justicia a favor de los más débiles, la solidaridad con los que no tienen nada, los que pasan hambre, los que padecen las injusticias de la guerra o las consecuencias de las catástrofes naturales.
Dadles vosotros de comer. Un mandamiento que en muchas ocasiones olvidamos y tal vez sustituimos por otros, importantes sí, pero menos urgentes.
