La pregunta que le hicieron aquellos fariseos a Jesús, con la intención de ponerlo a prueba y ver si contradecía la Ley de Moisés, se torna actual en estos tiempos. ¿Es lícito divorciarse? Acudir a las palabras del Maestro en estos momentos es buscar la fuente de la que emana nuestra fe y actualizar nuestras vidas a la luz de su mensaje.
Al principio Dios los creó hombre y mujer; si leemos pausadamente el relato de la creación, nos daremos cuenta de un detalle importante: Hemos sido creados a su imagen y semejanza; y somos creatura de Dios; hechos hombre y mujer con el fin de complementarse, llenar la tierra y someterla. Y por eso abandonará el hombre a su padre y su casa y se unirá a su mujer y formarán los dos una sola carne. Unidos para el bien de la familia.
Leyendo estadísticas nos podemos dar cuenta de la importancia que cobra en nuestra sociedad la familia; se valora notablemente y es una institución fundamental para la mayoría de las personas. Como núcleo de la sociedad, la familia constituye la base sobre la que asienta el resto de instituciones y sobre la que se crea una sociedad digna para todos, con derechos y deberes.
Sin embargo resulta paradójico que hablar de compromiso y fidelidad para toda la vida resulta anacrónico. Parece como si familia y matrimonio fueran por caminos distintos, cuando la una parte del otro. El matrimonio es la unión fiel entre hombre y mujer, una unión de la que nacen hijos fruto del amor; la pareja se realiza y vive su vida en un proyecto común que se abre al resto de las personas como una comunidad de personas.
Nadie dijo que fuera fácil vivir en matrimonio; sin embargo, permanecer firmes y luchar juntos en las dificultades hace a la familia aún más fuerte y une sus propios vínculos. Hoy día debemos creer en la institución familiar como esa comunidad de origen y referencia de la que hemos recibido la vida. El matrimonio se convierte así en el pilar fundamental por el que hay que apostar y al cual hay que respetar.
Creados a imagen y semejanza de Dios, hombre y mujer se unen en un mismo proyecto para toda la vida; el respeto, el cariño, la superación de las dificultades, el diálogo hacen que el amor crezca cada día más; y puesto que Dios es amor, la familia será reflejo del mismo Dios. ¿Es lícito divorciarse? La respuesta a esa pregunta dependerá de nuestro grado de convicción de los valores familiares y del matrimonio como célula fundamental dela vida. Cristo nos ha mostrado el camino, nosotros solo hemos de seguir sus huellas.
