HOMILÍA
Acabamos de escuchar las lecturas de este domingo, veintidós del tiempo ordinario. La primera de ellas la hemos tomado del libro del Deuteronomio. Un libro del Antiguo Testamento que es conocido como el libro del recuerdo y del amor. En tiempos de su autor, el peligro constante de la idolatría acechaba al pueblo de Israel. Las civilizaciones paganas de los grandes imperios vecinos le atraían. Los israelitas sentían la tentación de pensar y de vivir como las naciones más poderosas y avanzadas. Para contrarrestar este peligro de la idolatría y de la pérdida de la identidad nacional fue escrito este libro cuyo título significa “Segunda Ley”.
Su contenido constituye una meditación ferviente sobre el pasado de Israel. “Recuerda y Amarás” son las palabras clave de este libro. El autor está convencido de que si el pueblo recuerda su pasado; un pasado en el que Dios ha estado a su lado protegiéndole y ayudándole, no sentirá la tentación de adorar a otros dioses y se volverá al Dios de la Alianza, al Dios que en ese pasado estableció un pacto de amistad con ellos. “Recuerda el pasado, tus orígenes” les dice el autor a su pueblo y llegarás a la conclusión de que el Dios de la alianza es un Dios al que es posible amar.
La Iglesia también ha atravesado situaciones críticas a lo largo de la historia. Y siempre ha salido renovada recordando su pasado, sus orígenes, a la luz del Espíritu Santo. Eso fue lo que hizo en el Concilio Vaticano II. Así mismo, conviene que, de vez en cuando, hagamos un alto en el camino y recordemos el sendero de nuestra propia historia personal. Tal vez descubramos allí la presencia de Cristo y recuperemos la capacidad de admirarnos y agradecer. Recuerda y amarás pueden ser hoy también dos palabras clave. Recordar la propia vida, descubrir en ella la presencia, misteriosa pero real, de un Dios que no nos ha dejado nunca de su mano, ni siquiera en los peores momentos de nuestra existencia, puede ayudamos a renovar y actualizar el amor hacia ese Dios cercano.
La segunda lectura la hemos tomado del Apóstol Santiago. Un apóstol que se caracteriza por hacer hincapié en la necesidad de vivir aquello que se dice creer. Es necesario poner en práctica, nos viene a decir, lo que se ha escuchado en la Palabra de Dios. Para él, una religión puramente teórica, una religión que no lleve al creyente a ayudar a los necesitados, a los que se encuentran sin protección, es una religión estéril que no puede agradar al Señor. Estas palabras también fueron escritas para nosotros. El culto que le tributamos al Señor solo adquiere su plenitud de sentido cuando se traduce en un compromiso con los hombres; sobre todo, con los más pobres, con los que carecen de lo imprescindible.
La lectura del evangelio nos ha hablado del mismo tema. Algunos judíos del tiempo de Jesús hacían mucho hincapié en los pequeños detalles y se olvidaban, con frecuencia, de lo fundamental en sus relaciones con el Señor, en el culto que le tributaban. Si en ese culto, con el que pretendemos honrar al Señor, no ponemos el corazón y nos limitarnos a repetir mecánicamente oraciones y gestos, no estamos haciendo nada. A ese culto, hecho con los labios y el corazón, debe acompañar siempre una vida honrada y justa.
Vamos a continuar la celebración confesando juntos esa fe que estamos llamados a vivir.
