HOMILÍA
Nos acaban de ser proclamadas las lecturas propias del segundo domingo de adviento. Un tiempo que nos trae los ecos de los antiguos profetas del pueblo de Israel que sembraron de esperanza las vidas de sus compatriotas. Unos compatriotas que sufrían unas duras condiciones de vida y suspiraban por un Mesías, por un esperado. Un tiempo también este del adviento que nos ofrece las palabras exigentes de un Juan Bautista que proclama, a quien quiera oírle, que es necesario cambiar las actitudes y los comportamientos para acoger a ese mesías presente ya en medio del pueblo.
La primera lectura la hemos tomado del profeta Isaías. Nos ha hecho una descripción de ese futuro Mesías. Nos ha hablado de sus cualidades, de sus actitudes, de su comportamiento: “juzgará a los pobres con justicia, con rectitud a los desamparados”. También nos ha descrito un futuro idealizado en el que los enemigos irreconciliables podrán vivir, juntos, en paz: “habitará el lobo con el cordero, la vaca pastará con el oso.” ¡Qué lejos estamos, todavía hoy, de ese futuro de paz y justicia, de tranquilidad y bienestar del que nos hablaba el profeta! Y, sin embargo, hoy como entonces, ha de haber personas que trabajen por la paz, que acerquen personas y pueblos enemistados, que recen por la paz y la concordia entre todos.
La segunda lectura es de la carta de San Pablo a los cristianos de Roma. Hemos escuchado palabras como esperanza, paciencia, consuelo, acogida, servicio, misericordia, alabanza. Todas ellas son propias de este tiempo de adviento. En la medida en que podamos, pongámoslas en práctica con aquellos con los que convivimos y con el Dios a quien invocamos. Llevémoslas a nuestra oración de cada día
El relato del evangelio de San Mateo nos ha presentado la imponente figura de un Juan Bautista austero, que vivía en el desierto y que predicaba un mensaje de conversión. Hablaba de preparar los caminos del Señor, de allanar los senderos en los que nos podemos encontrar con Él. Muchas cosas puede haber en nuestra vida que nos impidan encontrarnos con Jesús: nuestros egoísmos, nuestras ambiciones, nuestras falsas seguridades de quien piensa que, como estamos bautizados y somos cristianos, ya es suficiente. Juan nos pide algo más: que demos el fruto que pide la conversión. Si queremos encontrarnos con el Jesús que llega a nosotros en toda Navidad, hemos de tomar conciencia de nuestra situación, de nuestra realidad, de nuestros fallos y hemos de trabajar, de verdad, para cambiar lo que haya que cambiar, para potenciar lo que ya venimos haciendo bien. Pidamos al Señor que nos ayude a cumplir el mensaje de un Juan Bautista que sólo quiere que nos lleguemos a encontrar con Jesús en las mejores condiciones.
