HOMILÍA
Hemos escuchado las lecturas propias del segundo domingo del Tiempo del Adviento, a las puertas de la celebración de la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada. Este domingo nos presenta, por primera vez, a Juan el Bautista, el Precursor, el que prepara los caminos, el que predica un bautismo de conversión; el que sacude las conciencias, quizás adormiladas, de tantos que van pasando los días sin pena ni gloria. Dejémonos impactar no solo por sus palabras sino también por el testimonio de su vida pobre, austera y humilde.
La primera lectura la hemos tomado del gran profeta que anuncia la venida del Mesías. Nos ha descrito cuáles serán sus actitudes y su comportamiento: “No juzgará por apariencias ni sentenciará de oídas; juzgará a los pobres con justicia, sentenciará con rectitud a los sencillos de la tierra; pero golpeará al violento con la vara de su boca, y con el soplo de sus labios hará morir al malvado”. El profeta piensa en ese futuro de paz en el que “habitará el lobo con el cordero y en el nadie causará daño ni estrago: porque estará lleno el país del conocimiento del Señor, como las aguas colman el mar”.
La segunda lectura, de San Pablo a los Romanos, nos ha hablado del Dios de la paciencia y del consuelo; del Dios que nos invita a tener los mismos sentimientos de Cristo Jesús; del Dios que nos invita a acogernos mutuamente los unos a los otros; del Dios que siembra en nosotros la semilla de la esperanza.
El evangelio de San Mateo nos ha mostrado la figura incomparable de Juan el Bautista. Él sabe que no es el Mesías, que solo bautiza con agua pero anuncia con fuerza la llegada de un Jesús que bautizará con Espíritu Santo y fuego y del que no es digno de desatarle las correas de sus sandalias. ¡Ojala que hagamos caso de su llamada a la conversión!
