HOMILÍA
En este primer domingo del mes de noviembre hemos escuchado las lecturas propias del que hace el número treinta y uno del tiempo ordinario. Unas lecturas que van dirigidas a todos pero, de una forma especial, a aquellos que presiden o dirigen las distintas comunidades religiosas. Ellos tienen unos deberes que tienen que cumplir y, si no lo hacen así, están llamados a recibir la necesaria advertencia. El mal uso de la autoridad puede llevar a muchos a apartarse del Señor y a romper con la comunidad a la que se pertenece.
La primera lectura la hemos tomado del profeta Malaquías. Han sido palabras duras dirigidas a los sacerdotes del templo de Jerusalén, algunos de los cuales se habían apartado del buen camino haciendo tropezar a muchos y actuaban de diferente manera según era la categoría de las personas con las que trataban. En definitiva, habían hecho acepción de personas: Este tiene medios económicos o ese me cae bien pues le trato mejor que a ese otro que es pobre o no me resulta tan simpático. El profeta, en nombre de Dios, censura esas conductas e invita al arrepentimiento y al cambio de vida. Recemos nosotros hoy por los sacerdotes que presiden las distintas parroquias y comunidades cristianas para que sean buenos pastores y actúen a imagen y semejanza del Jesús que no vino a ser servido sino a servir.
La segunda lectura la hemos tomado de la carta que San Pablo escribió a la comunidad cristiana de Tesalónica. El mensaje, en esta ocasión, es distinto. El apóstol recuerda los esfuerzos evangelizadores que desplegaron en esa ciudad, cómo les trataron con delicadeza, con cariño, sin ahorrarse fatigas y esfuerzos y, cómo todo eso, dio fruto abundante porque muchos ciudadanos abrazaron la fe y se adhirieron a la Iglesia; vieron, en las palabras de los evangelizadores, no simples palabras humanas, sino palabras del mismo Dios. ¡Ojalá que la coherencia entre nuestras palabras y nuestros hechos acerque a muchos a la fe y a la Iglesia!
El relato del evangelio de San Mateo conecta perfectamente con las palabras del profeta Malaquías de la primera lectura. Jesús llama la atención a quienes, ocupando puestos importantes en la comunidad creyente israelita, no hacían lo que decían y les gustaba disfrutar de su poder y de los puestos que ocupaban. Obligaban a otros a cumplir preceptos y normas que ellos no llevaban a cabo. Para Jesús, el que ocupa un lugar importante debe ser, antes que nada, un hermano y un servidor. Está allí para ayudar, para dar ejemplo y no para aprovecharse del cargo y para pretender honores y riquezas. Está para servir y no para ser servido. Si nosotros tenemos algún poder, si somos maestros, consejeros o padres seamos servidores de quienes dependen de nosotros.
