HOMILÍA
Nos acaban de ser proclamadas las lecturas correspondientes al cuarto domingo de Cuaresma. La primera de ellas la hemos tomado del segundo libro de las Crónicas. El autor es testigo de una época difícil para su pueblo. Un pueblo que acaba de volver del destierro y que debe comenzar la reconstrucción del país. Se impone, como primera medida, animar la fe y la esperanza en un futuro mejor. Para ello, el autor hace memoria del pasado. Un pasado en el que hubo maldades, pecados del pueblo y de la clase dirigente, infidelidades, injusticias….que desembocaron en una derrota militar y en un largo exilio en Babilonia a donde fueron conducidos como esclavos.
Sin embargo, no todo fue malo en esa historia. Entre las cosas buenas hay que destacar esa intervención de Dios para que el destierro terminara y todos pudieran volver a casa. El pasado, bueno o malo, enseña muchas cosas. Si el optar por el pecado y el mal les llevó, en su momento, al desastre, ahora se impone la necesidad de edificar una sociedad basada en otros valores: en la verdad, en la bondad, en la justicia, en unas relaciones filiales con el Señor y fraternas con todos. Del pasado también pueden aprender la presencia permanente del Señor. Un Dios que no les abandonó nunca, ni siquiera cuando estaban empeñados en la práctica del mal.
De esta lectura también podemos aprender nosotros. En toda cuaresma hacemos memoria de nuestra situación personal. Una situación marcada, a veces, por el pecado, por el mal. Nos creemos justos, decimos que no tenemos pecado, abusamos del prójimo, hacemos daño con nuestras palabras y con nuestras obras. Somos egoístas, injustos, insolidarios. Y todo esto nos lleva, como a los israelitas de aquel tiempo, a situaciones tensas, a enfrentamientos, a convivencias difíciles. Renunciemos al mal. Recordemos el perdón que, en otras ocasiones, nos ha ofrecido el Señor y acojámonos a él.
El relato evangélico de san Juan nos ha transmitido un fragmento de la larga conversación que sostuvieron Jesús y Nicodemo. Este pertenecía a la clase dirigente de Israel empeñada en hacer callar, como fuera, a Jesús. Nicodemo, sin embargo, estaba profundamente interesado por Él y, una noche, lo citó en secreto para hablar a solas con Él. Del pasaje de hoy podríamos resaltar esta frase de Jesús: “Dios no mandó su hijo al mundo para condenar al mundo sino para que el mundo se salve por Él.” Si Dios no está inclinado a condenar, procuremos no condenarnos unos a otros tan fácilmente. Con frecuencia nos juzgamos con severidad y nos condenamos a la más mínima sin buscar comprender las razones del otro.
