HOMILÍA
Hemos escuchado las lecturas correspondientes al sexto domingo de Pascua. La primera la hemos tomado del Libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles. En la comunidad cristiana se planteó muy pronto un problema que llegaría a ser crucial y que, una vez superado, ya no se volvería a plantear de nuevo. La cuestión era ésta: El Evangelio ¿debía ser proclamado únicamente a los judíos de Palestina y del extranjero o podía ser anunciado también a los no judíos, a los pueblos paganos? ¿Un no judío podía formar parte de la Iglesia? la respuesta a estas preguntas dividió a los cristianos. El episodio de hoy, en el que hemos visto a Pedro bautizar y acoger en la Iglesia al primer pagano, marcó el comienzo de una etapa nueva en la que ya no habría límites de raza o pueblo. Todo ser humano estaba llamado a formar parte de la Iglesia porque, en palabras de Pedro, “Dios acepta al que lo teme y practica la justicia sea de la nación que sea”.
La segunda lectura la hemos tomado de la primera carta del apóstol San Juan. Hoy nos ha tocado uno de los pasajes más hermosos. En él se decían cosas como éstas: “Dios es amor. El que ama ha nacido de Dios. Dios nos amó primero”. El Jueves santo pasado tuvimos la oportunidad de recordar emocionados el momento en el que Jesús dejó a su Iglesia el mandato nuevo del amor y ese otro en el que, arrodillado ante sus amigos, les lavó los pies para enseñarles cómo debían estar los unos al servicio de los otros. Este amor no es solo para vivirlo en los grandes momentos sino también en la gris y monótona realidad cotidiana.
El relato evangélico, tomado de San Juan, nos ha descrito el momento en el que Jesús hace un llamamiento a sus Apóstoles para que permanezcan unidos a él. El domingo pasado recordábamos el pasaje inmediatamente anterior al de hoy, el que hablaba de cómo Cristo era la vid y nosotros los sarmientos. Unos sarmientos que para tener vida y dar fruto debían estar profundamente unidos a la vid.
Pero, les recuerda, no es suficiente con estar unidos a Él. Deben, también, estar unidos con los demás. Deben amar a los otros como Jesús les ama a ellos, hasta el extremo, hasta dar la vida. Solo unidos a Cristo podrán tener fuerza para amar a los demás. Sólo sintiéndose amados por Cristo podrán sentirse motivados para dar y compartir amor. Hoy la Iglesia nos pide que este amor lo vivamos, de una forma especial, con los enfermos; con los que además de no gozar de buena salud, están solos o abandonados; con los que se sienten hundidos por el peso de una realidad que les aplasta; con los que, por los motivos que sean, carecen de ilusión y de esperanza.
