Duras palabras las que dirige Jesús a los religiosamente buenos. Duras pero muy acertadas y actuales hasta tal punto que nos las podríamos aplicar a nosotros mismos en muchas situaciones. Publicano y fariseo se dirigen al templo a orar; tienen algo en común, quieren hablar con Dios. Sin embargo es notoria la actitud de uno y de otro. Mientras el segundo se colocó al final del templo y suplicaba perdón, el fariseo elevaba su acción de gracias a sí mismo por lo bueno que era.
Me quisiera fijar más en la actitud del fariseo, que erguido elevaba su acción de gracias a Dios por lo bueno que se creía. Ciertamente no era él como los demás; ni ladrón, ni adúltero, ni injusto… o al menos no se consideraba como tal. Pero su acción de gracias seguramente no fue escuchada por Dios, porque Él no acepta corazones orgullosos.
Se equivocaba de actitud aquél fariseo que, teniéndose por justo, despreciaba a los demás. ¿Con qué derecho menospreciaba a aquel pobre publicano que reconocía humildemente su pecado y suplicaba clemencia y misericordia en aquel templo? Seguramente con el derecho que le venía por cumplir fielmentela Ley. Perotodos sabemos que la Ley de Dios se resume en amarlo sobre todas las cosas y en amar al prójimo como a uno mismo. Y dudo que la actitud del fariseo fuera la de amar a aquel publicano como a sí mismo.
Jesús dirigía aquellas duras palabras precisamente para los que se sienten salvados, para los que creen que no necesitan convertir su corazón en nada. Y en ese gran grupo de personas bien podríamos situarnos nosotros de vez en cuando. Como ni robamos ni matamos, pues nos elevamos al mismo peldaño que aquel fariseo. Se nos olvida con frecuencia aquella frase de Jesús de que no necesitan médico los sanos, sino los enfermos. No ha venido a llamar a los justos sino a los pecadores.
Aquel discurso que planteó Jesús para los que se consideraban justos, seguramente sería un vaso de agua fresca para los publicanos y pecadores que con frecuencia iban a escucharlo. Se sentían salvados, amados por Dios a pesar de sus errores cometidos. No importaba. Dios había venido a visitarlos, precisamente a ellos, a los que la misma sociedad marginaba por su situación social, por su trabajo o por sus pecados conocidos.
¡Ojalá nuestra acción de gracias no sea otra que la de sentirnos amados y perdonados por Dios, que en su infinita misericordia quiso venir a liberar de las ataduras a los que cada día cometemos errores y estamos necesitados de conversión!
