El tema de la oración es uno de los preferidos por San Lucas. Es el evangelista que más habla de oración y el que más veces presenta a Jesús rezando.
El Domingo pasado, para animar nuestra oración, leímos la parábola de un Juez injusto, que a base de ruegos hizo justicia a una pobre mujer viuda. La fe nos adentra en el corazón de Dios, por eso la confianza y perseverancia han de acompañar siempre a la plegaria. Si el juez injusto escuchó a la mujer, cuánto más Dios Padre escuchará nuestras oraciones.
ORAR CON HUMILDAD
Este es el objetivo de la parábola de hoy. La contó el Señor, "por algunos que teniéndose por justos, se sentían seguros de sí mismos y despreciaban a los demás".
La parábola describe a "dos hombres que subieron al templo a orar".
Un fariseo. Un judío religioso, que se pone en la primera fila, reza erguido y en su interior le va recordando al Señor, por si no lo sabe, todas las cosas buenas que hace: ayuna, da limosnas, no es ni un adúltero, ni un bandido. Se compara con los otros, por los que siente un profundo desprecio. Se siente perfecto, lleno de derechos ante Dios.
El publicano. Un pecador reconocido. Se esconde en el último rincón, no se atreve a mirar a Dios y pide perdón humildemente.
Dos hombres muy distintos en su actitud. El fariseo no necesitaba de Dios. Lo tenía seguro, ganado por sus propios méritos. Ni siquiera reza. No puede pedir quien no siente necesidad. Es difícil creer en la misericordia de Dios, si no se ha experimentado la propia miseria. El publicano se sentía un pozo de maldad, pero estaba tan necesitado de perdón, que repetía con gestos y palabras la oración mejor que un hombre puede decir: "Sólo se golpeaba el pecho diciendo: ¡Oh Dios! Ten compasión de este pecador".
El Evangelio termina diciendo, que el pecador bajó a su casa justificado, pero el otro no.
Quien es hoy un fariseo y un publicano como los que pinta Jesús es difícil saberlo. Hay muchos publicanos, que lejos de bajar la cabeza se enorgullecen de su conducta. Hay fariseos, más seguros en lo que hacen, que en la bondad de Dios, aunque no frecuenten el templo. Ojalá los cristianos pudiéramos fundir en una misma persona la vida honorable y cumplidora de los deberes religiosos del buen fariseo y la sensibilidad de pecador, que mostraba el publicano descrito por Jesús.
Siempre tendremos que decir: "¡Oh Dios.Ten compasión de este pecador!
CONCLUSIÓN
– Seguiremos frecuentando el templo y rezaremos, con confianza y perseverancia.
– Evitaremos la oración puramente ritual. Eso que llamamos: cumplir con el precepto, quitarnos la obligación que aunque son frases hechas, encierran su peligro. Cuando vamos a la Iglesia es bueno buscar las primeras filas, cerca del Altar, pero teniendo el corazón de último lugar,
– Siempre es necesaria la humildad. Pero el examen de conciencia que hacía el fariseo judío, no es suficiente para un discípulo de Jesús, que contando con la gracia de Dios, tiene como meta el ser "otro Jesús". Por eso escribía San Juan: "Si alguno dice que no es un pecador es un mentiroso" (1 Jn.1.8)
– Sólo Dios nos cambia, por eso es bueno decir con verdad y humildad la oración del fariseo: "¡Ten compasión de este pecador!".
¡Santa María, ruega por nosotros pecadores!
