Aquél hombre que se acercó a Jesús buscaba la eternidad; había cumplido, desde pequeño, la Ley; su corazón seguramente estaba lleno de Dios y su fe le había movido a un encuentro personal con Cristo. De rodillas, como implorando una respuesta a algo que le faltaba, se coloca frente al maestro y le dirige su pregunta: ¿cómo ganar la vida eterna? Había escuchado mucho ya de lo que decían de Jesús, por eso le llama bueno; ¡y sólo Dios es bueno! tal y como le recuerda el mismo Maestro.
Jesús se limita a recordarle lo que ya Moisés había recibido de parte de Dios en el monte santo: la Ley; cumple los mandamientos y tendrás la vida eterna; aquél que buscaba una respuesta que satisficiera el vacío de su corazón le insiste: todo eso lo había cumplido desde niño; pero era como si su corazón aún estuviera inquieto, como si faltara algo para llenarlo por completo.
La mirada cariñosa de Jesús, enternecedora y emotiva por la fidelidad a los mandamientos, se dirige de nuevo a él y le dice que lo deje todo para tener un tesoro en el cielo. Esas palabras probablemente hicieron que el joven entristeciera, bajara su cabeza y se marchara con pesar de su corazón. Pesaban más en su mente las riquezas que poseía que el deseo de ser totalmente para Dios.
El discurso magistral de Jesús continuó para sus discípulos ante su extrañeza; tal vez ellos poseían muchas riquezas y les asustaba no tener su parte en el Reino que Jesús había proclamado.
Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente; y si hay algo que se interpone o que ocupa el lugar de tu corazón para no dejar entrar completamente a Dios… deshazte de ello. Es radical en el planteamiento, pero es necesario desocupar y vaciar nuestro corazón de tantas cosas como nos impiden encontrarnos con Dios.
Esas palabras que dirigió a aquél que había cumplido desde pequeño los mandamientos son las mismas que hoy resuenan en nuestra mente; déjalo todo, dalo a los pobres y así tendrás un tesoro en el cielo. Muchas riquezas ocupan nuestra mente; y no sólo materiales, porque la mayoría no somos ricos como para vivir sin trabajar; pero si nos ponemos a enumerar la cantidad de cosas a las que estamos apegados y a las que no podríamos renunciar, la lista sería larga. Y si miramos nuestro corazón y vemos qué ocupa nuestras ilusiones, esperanzas, nuestro tiempo o nuestros proyectos, caeremos en la cuenta de que Dios está por debajo de lo que pensamos.
Seguir a Jesús implica renuncia, sacrificio y trabajo por el Reino de Dios; y el que no lo vea así, que se marche entristecido, porque tal vez somos muy ricos.
