DOMINGO XX TIEMPO ORDINARIO
(Mt 15,21-28) A veces resultan muy llamativas las respuestas de Jesús a la gente que acude a Él; pero en el evangelio de este domingo, más que llamativa, nos parece incluso altanera. De nuevo quiere el Maestro retirarse de tanta multitud, de tanto trasiego y tantas curaciones como realizaba en sus paradas con la multitud. Pero la gente no deja de seguirle.
En este caso aparece una mujer cananea; alguien que no pertenecía a la casta del pueblo de Israel, el pueblo “escogido”.
Nos podemos imaginar la angustia de esa mujer que buscaba desesperadamente la curación de su hija, de la cual decía que tenía un demonio muy malo. Desesperada y ya sin saber a quién acudir se acerca al Maestro compasivo que tanta fama echaba a sus espaldas: curaciones, milagros, resurrecciones… Las únicas palabras que salen de su boca piden compasión.
Pero Jesús parece no hacer caso; continúa su camino como si nada le dijeran; el que había hablado a las multitudes sin poner ningún “pero” o excusa… ahora hace oídos sordos a la voz de esta mujer: Hasta los discípulos se extrañan y le dicen que la atienda.
Ella insiste y se postra ante Él; desesperada y con toda su fe puesta en aquél Hombre. Pero lo más llamativo de todo es la respuesta de Jesús: No está bien echar el pan de los hijos a los perros; parece que desprecia la petición de la cananea. No había hablado así anteriormente a nadie Jesús. ¿Por qué lo hizo?
En ocasiones son las peticiones y las actitudes de las personas que acuden a Jesús lo que le conmueven; recordemos el donativo de aquella pobre viuda; o el centurión que le pedía que sólo con su palabra curara a su soldado… Esta vez es la fe de aquella pobre mujer la que conmovió las entrañas del Maestro.
Se admira por la respuesta; ¡qué grande es tu fe! Y al instante queda curada su hija. Alguien que no pertenecía al pueblo de Israel, del que se esperaba la respuesta más confiada en el Mesías, había quedado una lección hermosa a los que la escuchaban.
La fe es esa respuesta que Dios ilumina en nuestros corazones y que hace que alcemos nuestra mirada a lo alto buscando la razón de nuestra existencia. Tal vez Jesús quería dar aquella lección a los discípulos que estaban allí y por eso habló de aquella manera. Tal vez el ejemplo de la cananea inquiete los corazones de los que hemos conocido quién es Jesús. Tal vez podamos tener la humildad de aquella buena mujer que se consideraba indigna de recibir el favor de Dios.
