Hay asalariados muy buenos. De hecho hay asalariados santos. Santos que se han santificado realizando un trabajo por el que recibieron un salario, que dedicaron a dar vida a una familia. Seguro que todos podemos presumir de familia. Al menos yo, sí. Y perdonadme si doy vuelos altos a una cuestión tan personal. En todo caso, lo que quiero decir es que muchos obreros–asalariados han sido y siguen siendo muy buenos pastores de su pequeño rebaño: su familia. ¿Por qué? Porque no han absolutizado su trabajo fuera de casa (un medio), sino que han entendido que su verdadera labor era construir una familia–pequeña–iglesia (un fin).
No obstante, vamos a intentar llevar esta reflexión a otro ámbito: el ámbito de quienes en virtud de la ordenación participan del oficio pastoral, confiado por el mismo Jesucristo a los apóstoles y perpetuado por el ministerio ordenado. ¿Qué actos y qué actitudes distinguen a un pastor de un asalariado? El asalariado circunscribe su pastoreo a unas horas y a unos espacios, intentando que fuera de esos ámbitos nadie se percate de que su vocación es permanente. En el ejercicio de su trabajo son personas de extremos: o bien no pasan ni una o bien las pasan todas. Buscan su alimento en lo noticioso y se olvidan del silencio que contempla el Pan y la Palabra. Pocas veces hablan de Jesucristo como Salvador y, muchas veces, no pronuncian su nombre. A fuerza de considerar que “pescar hombres” es una actividad violenta, se contentan con un dejar pasar la vida en la que lo único que perciben son sus derechos y su especificidades. Puedo exagerar, pero no me lo tengan en cuenta, porque a la hora de estar escribiendo estas palabras estoy haciendo mi examen de conciencia.
También la vida de los seglares se presta a ser vivida como la viven estos asalariados del Evangelio: hacer compartimentos estancos (lo público y lo privado; el ocio y el negocio; la familia y los amigos; la intimidad y las relaciones); pensar que las palabras Dios, Jesucristo, pecado, gracia… son altamente ofensivas y discriminatorias; absolutizar la conciencia sin enfrentarla al mensaje de Dios y la iglesia; mundanizar la misión del cristiano en la sociedad.
El buen Pastor “conoce” y “da” la vida por las ovejas, porque sabe que son parte suya. El buen Pastor tiene “otras ovejas que no son de este redil”: las tiene que “traer”. Y para ello “da la vida”. Nadie se la quita. Esta imagen del buen Pastor que siempre parece entrañable resulta muy exigente y es incompatible con la tibieza y el silencio buenista. El Espíritu Santo y su Esposa –la Virgen María, la iglesia– caldearán tu corazón y el mío para que no sea un imposible, sino la misión gloriosa de los hijos de Dios.
