Creo que bien conocida es por todos la relación entre samaritanos y galileos; no era muy diplomática, por decirlo de algún modo; cuestiones religiosas en torno a dónde se debía dar culto a Dios, había sido el motivo fundamental que los había separado; y desde siglos atrás, toda una disputa entre pueblos provenientes de una misma raíz, los distanciaba más y más.
Supongo que más significativas resultaron estas palabras para las primitivas comunidades cristianas, puesto que conocían en primera persona estas relaciones tan espinosas; no es anecdótico que aquél que volvió para darle gracias a Dios fuera un samaritano: habían sido rechazados, los de su pueblo, por considerar que se equivocaban en el culto a Dios y ahora Jesús lo ponía como ejemplo de persona agradecida.
Más allá de las referencias históricas, estas palabras del evangelio pueden quedarnos una hermosa lección: la del agradecimiento. Solemos practicar con frecuencia la oración de petición: nos vemos en momentos angustiados y enseguida elevamos nuestros ojos al cielo esperando la misericordia y la ayuda divina. Es bueno elevar nuestras súplicas a Dios, sobre todo, porque sabemos que es nuestro Padre y siempre nos escucha.
Pero también tendremos que ser agradecidos; mucho se nos ha dado y mucho ha sido confiado en nuestras manos; cada día, desde su amanecer, es una nueva oportunidad que se nos brinda para empezar de nuevo y para ser servidores de la Buena Noticia de Dios; cada día se abren caminos a la esperanza y de felicidad.
¿Cómo no vamos a ser agradecidos por todo lo que somos y tenemos? Resulta que en muchas ocasiones nos parecemos a los nueve leprosos que iban tan confiados en su curación que olvidaron volver para agradecerle a Cristo la sanación. Al que mucho se le perdona, mucho ama. Quien ama tiene un corazón lleno de gratitud. Aquellos leprosos se encontraron con Cristo y cambiaron por completo sus vidas. Ese encuentro tendría que haber sido el comienzo de un camino nuevo; para uno sí lo fue; para los restantes la curación fue una anécdota más de sus vidas, importante sí, pero poco significativa, pues no fueron capaces de ver más allá del milagro para encontrarse con Cristo.
