I Domingo de Cuaresma. Ciclo C.
Es tradicional esta lectura evangélica al comienzo de la Cuaresma; sobre todo porque nos recuerda que en Cristo hemos vencido al pecado. Él nos ha quedado un ejemplo claro de cómo debemos vivir y a qué debemos dar importancia.
Durante cuarenta días vive Jesús en el desierto; no olvidemos que el desierto es un lugar de manifestación de Dios por excelencia; echando la vista al éxodo recordaremos cómo Dios guía a su pueblo y lo sostiene con el maná en aquel periodo de tiempo. En el desierto muchos profetas escucharon la voz de Dios y llevaron al pueblo un mensaje denunciante, en unas ocasiones, y alentador en otras.
En ese marco incomparable Jesús, al final sintió hambre. Y se presenta la tentación en forma de riqueza, opulencia y fama. Pero el corazón de Cristo no estaba puesto en lo mundano, es decir, en aquello que era reconocido por el resto de las personas. Al contrario, se sabía sostenido por el Padre y en Él confiaba.
Hoy podríamos imaginarnos nosotros en el puesto de Jesús y tratar de descubrir cuales serían nuestras respuestas a estas tentaciones. Riqueza, fama, poder, gloria, honor… Resulta todo muy atrayente; y no pensemos que eso está muy lejos de nuestra vida, que no somos ricos, o que rechazaríamos la fama; no seamos ingenuos. A todos nos gusta que nos valoren lo que hacemos y ocupar los primeros puestos en nuestra sociedad.
¿En qué ocupamos nuestro tiempo? Tal vez en acumular tesoros aquí en la tierra, donde la polilla lo corroe y donde el límite del tiempo acabará por reducirlos a ceniza. No sólo de pan vive el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios. ¿Qué es lo que ocupa el puesto más importante en nuestro corazón? Recordemos que sólo a Dios debemos dar culto, y a nadie más.
La cuaresma nos llama urgentemente a cambiar todas estas actitudes que no son más que esquivar la llamada de Dios a la Pascua, al paso hacia una nueva vida. Debemos convertir nuestro corazón, el Reino de Dios está muy cerca de nosotros; debemos cambiar de vida, dejando a un lado tantas vanidades que nos apartan del Dios que arde en deseos de vivir en nuestro corazón.
Ahora es el tiempo oportuno; ahora es el momento en el que podemos comenzar una nueva vida; y es ahora… o nunca; así de radical es la cuaresma. Pero no estamos solos, Cristo nos ha abierto el camino y nos anima; Él venció la tentación, agarrados a su misericordia y a su cruz también nosotros podemos vencerla.
