“A sus discípulos se lo explicaba todo en privado”. Y esta es la intimidad que busca el hijo de Dios: el cristiano es un discípulo que camina en la voluntad del Señor; está llamado a ser, por pura gracia, el justo que “en la vejez seguirá dando fruto y estará lozano y frondoso”, con el único fin de anunciar y glorificar la inmensa bondad del Señor.
Hoy la cosa se explica de acuerdo con las imágenes del mundo vegetal, pero superando lo que según la naturaleza sería previsible. De nuevo, la lógica divina sorprende. ¿A qué agricultor se le ocurriría “secar los árboles lozanos y hacer florecer los árboles secos”? Esto es de Dios y esconde en su interior la esperanza de Israel y la de toda la comunidad humana e, incluso, la de todo lo creado: que la limitación sea superada y que la vida se manifieste clara y perdurable como su autor.
Una vida y un crecimiento que se mueve en grados conjuntos con el crecimiento del reino de Dios. Donde Dios reina, la tierra goza y se conmueven todos sus habitantes. En la vida del hombre, cuyo Dios es el Señor, la pequeña semilla de la caridad se abre en fe y esperanza hasta ser un árbol que se alza y que alimenta y cobija. Las virtudes –tanto las sobrenaturales, como las humanas– son así: contienen el vigor para que la vida de la persona crezca de acuerdo con la llamada que Dios le ha dirigido y, al mismo tiempo, se abra a la comunidad humana. Este abrirse conlleva ser sustento y resguardo para que cualquiera que se acerque se sienta acogido y protegido. La semilla, no obstante, necesita cuidados: no puede arrancarse a sí misma de la tierra fértil que es la iglesia y replantarse en el desierto. No. La semilla debe recibir el agua limpia de la gracia a través de los canales por los que se dispensa gratuita y colmadamente. Una vida cristiana –la vida de cualquier cristiano– necesita unión con la fuente de agua viva, que es Cristo. Y esta unión es lo que explica que Dios pueda reinar o, de hecho, reine en tu vida o en la mía. Esta unión mística –sacramental, orante y contemplativa– es el alma de todo apostolado. Así el que camine por el desierto descubrirá en su horizonte un vergel que se le abre y que no es un espejismo, sino la realidad de Dios reinando en sus hijos. Y se apresurará a llegar y será acogido, como un hermano, como un hijo.
El tiempo de primavera se inclina hacia el verano. Los calores nos hacen ver qué necesaria es el agua. Nuestro ser reino de Dios camina entre un mundo demasiado mundanizado y necesita de descanso y frescura en las fértiles dehesas que el Señor nos ha preparado. Ser iglesia, para ser alimento y cobijo de todos, sin distinción. No puedo seguir escribiendo ni pensando sin mirar a la Virgen y reconocer cuántas veces ella ha sido el vaso en el cual he bebido el agua más refrescante.
