GRACIAS, BENEDICTO XVI
Antes de llegar a ser Papa, Joseph Ratzinger era reconocido y valorado como teólogo y su nombre ya estaba escrito en la historia por su extensa, rigurosa y excelente producción teológica. Fue determinante su colaboración en la redacción del “Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica” y su responsabilidad como Prefecto de la Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe marcó hitos memorables.
Durante su pontificado, su calidad humana, su proverbial sonrisa, sus frecuentes viajes, sus encíclicas, sus exhortaciones apostólicas, sus cartas y constituciones apostólicas, sus catequesis en las audiencias generales, sus encuentros con los jóvenes, sus palabras en los ángelus, sus bendiciones, sus oraciones, su inmensa capacidad de trabajo, nos acercaron aún más su entrañable figura.
Su vida y su misión han sido un regalo de Dios para la Iglesia. Por eso, damos gracias al Señor de la vida por habernos dado la oportunidad de leer, escuchar y admirar a quien se consideraba a sí mismo como un “humilde trabajador en la viña del Señor”.
Algunas emblemáticas expresiones de las encíclicas de Benedicto XVI han dejado una huella imborrable. Recordamos tres:
1) “No se comienza a ser cristiano por una decisión ética o una gran idea, sino por el encuentro con un acontecimiento, con una Persona, que da un nuevo horizonte a la vida y, con ello, una orientación decisiva” (Deus caritas est, 1).
2) “La vida es como un viaje por el mar de la historia, a menudo oscuro y borrascoso, un viaje en el que escudriñamos los astros que nos indican la ruta. Las verdaderas estrellas de nuestra vida son las personas que han sabido vivir rectamente. Ellas son luces de esperanza. Jesucristo es ciertamente la luz por antonomasia, el sol que brilla sobre todas las tinieblas de la historia. Pero para llegar hasta Él necesitamos también luces cercanas, personas que dan luz reflejando la luz de Cristo, ofreciendo así orientación para nuestra travesía. Y ¿quién mejor que María podría ser para nosotros estrella de esperanza (…)?” (Spe salvi, 49).
3) “La caridad en la verdad, de la que Jesucristo se ha hecho testigo con su vida terrenal y, sobre todo, con su muerte y resurrección, es la principal fuerza impulsora del auténtico desarrollo de cada persona y de toda la humanidad” (Caritas in veritate, 1).
Siendo Papa, publicó su trilogía “Jesús de Nazaret” con un claro propósito: “He tratado de desarrollar una mirada al Jesús de los Evangelios, un escucharle a Él que pudiera convertirse en un encuentro; pero también, en la escucha en comunión con los discípulos de Jesús de todos los tiempos, llegar a la certeza de la figura realmente histórica de Jesús”.
