Celebra hoy la Iglesia la fiesta del Bautismo de Jesús. Atrás han quedado ya las grandes celebraciones de la Navidad, de las fiestas de la Sagrada Familia, del Año Nuevo, de la Epifania o de los Reyes Magos, así como de algún domingo en el que también nos hemos reunido como comunidad cristiana. Este domingo, en el que nos encontramos, nos invita a dar un salto en el tiempo y a fijar nuestros ojos en un Jesús, ya adulto, dispuesto a comenzar la aventura de su vida pública, tras haber pasado la mayor parte de su vida en su pueblo de Nazaret con su familia. Los hechos extraordinarios que rodearon su nacimiento no tuvieron continuidad en esos años en los que Jesús fue creciendo en estatura, en sabiduría y en gracia. Fueron años de vida oculta en los que nadie percibió nada fuera de lo común. Años en los que, el Dios hecho hombre, fue aprendiendo, como hombre, lo que como Dios ya sabía. Un día, intuyó que debía ponerse en camino.
Y lo hizo. Dirigió sus pasos hacia el sur, donde Juan el Bautista llevaba un tiempo preparando a la gente para su venida. Todos hemos escuchado el relato del evangelio, tal como nos lo contó el evangelista San Lucas. Muchos se preguntaban si no sería Juan el Mesías pero él insistía una y otra vez que no, que su bautismo de agua sólo era el paso previo al bautismo “con Espíritu Santo” de Jesús. Él era sólo el precursor, el anunciador del que tenía que venir. El relato nos cuenta que, tras el bautismo de Jesús, se oyó la voz del Padre que decía: “Tú eres mi hijo, el amado, en ti me complazco”.
El Bautismo de Jesús es el acontecimiento que divide en dos su vida. Hasta ese momento, él había sido uno más entre los habitantes de Nazaret. Pero, tras el Bautismo, las cosas van a cambiar. Ha llegado el momento de los milagros, de las parábolas, de las enseñanzas sublimes, de la elección de los doce apóstoles, de una vida itinerante recorriendo los pueblos y los senderos de Palestina enseñando a la gente que Dios es un Padre que les quiere y que todos son hermanos. Una actividad desbordante que le llevará a sentirse querido por muchos pero también rechazado y odiado por otros. Este odio se impondrá y propiciará su pasión y muerte en una cruz, antes de resucitar para siempre y lanzar a los suyos a la misión evangelizadora.
El Bautismo de Jesús nos recuerda nuestro propio bautismo. Hoy es un buen día para hacer la renovación de las promesas bautismales, para aceptar y asumir aquellos compromisos que nuestros padres y padrinos hicieron por nosotros. Preguntémonos si nos estamos tomando en serio el hecho de estar bautizados, de ser cristianos, creyentes en Jesús, si somos coherentes entre lo que somos y vivimos.
