5º DOMINGO DE CUARESMA:
(Jn 11,1-45) Yo creo que tú eres el Mesías, el hijo de Dios vivo; una frase que puede resumir el evangelio de Juan que hoy leemos; el agua, la luz y hoy la muerte son símbolos que aparecen en estos evangelios de Cuaresma para mostrarnos quién es Cristo y cómo su presencia cambia por completo la vida del hombre, en todos los aspectos, incluso en la misma muerte.
Betania es entonces una comunidad judía muy próxima a Jerusalén. Jesús tiene una amistad especial con los tres hermanos: Marta, María y Lázaro. Jesús recibe el aviso de parte de las dos hermanas de que su amigo está enfermo. Jesús decide retrasar su visita sin razón aparente; pero como todo tiene su tiempo… este acontecimiento serviría para manifestar la Gloria de Dios.
Ya hemos oído hablar de esa amistad y de la unión íntima existente entre ellos; hoy Jesús llorará por su amigo Lázaro, porque le quería, porque su corazón de carne tenía los mismos sentimientos que pueden tener los nuestros, por eso llora.
Cuando llega a Betania comienza un diálogo con las hermanas; Marta, la impetuosa, sale a su encuentro e incluso parece recriminarle que haya llegado un poco tarde; pero no importa, cree en la Resurrección; después de haber conocido a su amigo Jesús, cree en Él, cree que es el Mesías; también María, la que se sentaba a escuchar sus palabras, parece mirar a Jesús tristemente diciéndole que llega tarde; pero Jesús continúa caminando hacia su amigo Lázaro.
Llora, sus lágrimas demuestran el cariño que le tenía a Lázaro y, por tercera vez, (como la negación de Pedro), la gente comenta que ya podría haber curado a su amigo, y no haber dejado que muriera. Recriminaciones que llegan a los oídos de Jesús, pero que se convertirían en la manifestación de esa gloria de Dios.
Ora a su Padre, al que tantas veces había dirigido sus plegarias y en el que había apoyado su misión; y con voz firme: “Lázaro, sal fuera”. Los que antes habían criticado la actitud tardía de Jesús, ahora creen por sus milagros. Y lo que había anticipado Jesús días antes, cuando tardó en dirigirse a Betania, se cumple: “esta enfermedad serviría para dar gloria a Dios y al Hijo”.
La vida es Cristo y sólo en Dios puede hallarse; Tú eres la resurrección y la vida, y sólo en ti puede el hombre encontrar la vida en Dios.
