San Marcos abre el Evangelio con una definición rotunda de Jesús:
"Comienzo del Evangelio de Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios".
Después, para despertar el interés de los lectores, va manteniendo un constante interrogante sobre su persona: "¿Qué doctrina es ésta, dicha con tal autoridad?, ¿De dónde le viene tal sabiduría y ese poder de hacer milagros?, ¿No es éste el hijo del José el Carpintero?, ¿Por qué come y bebe con los pecadores públicos?, ¿Quién es éste para perdonar peca- dos?, ¿Quién es éste que hasta los vientos y el mar le obedecen?..."
Era el rumor que había en torno a su persona. Para unos era un blasfemo, un endemoniado. Para otros un Profeta, enviado por Dios.
"¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?"
Esta es la pregunta de hoy. Los Apóstoles le dicen la impresión de la calle. La gente lo tienen por uno de los grandes Profetas: Elías, Jeremías o el Bautista.
Les pregunta Jesús sobre lo que piensan ellos y Pedro hace su confesión de fe: "Tu eres el Mesías"
Era clara la afirmación. Pero para evitar equívocos y que no creyeran que Jesús era el Mesías de las esperanzas judías, alguien fuerte que devolviera el poder y el esplendor al pueblo judío, –una especie de Cid Campeador–, les anuncia el camino que le espera: "El Hijo del Hombre tiene que padecer mucho... ser ejecutado y resucitar..."
Pedro, que no lo comprende, se opone tajantemente. Y Jesús, riñéndole con severidad, anuncia esta senda de cruz para todos sus seguidores. "El que quiera venirse conmigo... que cargue con su cruz y me siga".
Más allá de lo que la gente piense o de lo que deseen los Apóstoles, Jesús es el que es: el Hijo de Dios que nos va a salvar, no por un camino de rosas, victorioso siempre, sino por la senda trillada de la fidelidad a Dios, que esconde la cruz en muchos momentos.
¿Quién es Jesús para mí?
Esta es la pregunta. Y no la voy a contestar con el catecismo, que daría una respuesta exacta, pero tal vez un poco fría. La pregunta es pro- funda, totalmente personal.
– ¿Qué supone Jesús en mi vida? ¿Qué influencia tiene en mis decisiones? ¿Cómo marca mi manera de vivir?
– Ese Jesús, en quien creo, es Alguien que vivió. Es historia. Lo conozco por el Evangelio. Sé cómo era, qué predicaba, qué vida hacía... lo sé casi todo sobre su persona. Pero necesito seguir leyendo cada día su vida. Meditarlo, rezarle, para conocerlo mucho mejor y parecerme un poco más a Él.
Pero lo más importante es que tenga la profunda sensación de que está vivo. Que vive en medio de nosotros y con nosotros. Que vive en mí, camina conmigo, le hablo, me habla, se me da en comida, lo tropiezo en las gentes, lo puedo servir en todo momento. Se extrañaban los romanos de que Pablo hablaba de "un cierto Jesús, ya muerto, del que decía que estaba vivo" (Hec. 25.19)
Un cristiano es alguien que cree en el Cristo que vive. Una persona, que va por la calle, o está en el trabajo o en su casa... y es capaz de detenerse y gritar: "No soy yo quien vive, es Cristo el que vive en mí"
