¿Serán muchos los que se salven? Una pregunta que traía de cabeza a sus discípulos, como la de quién ocuparía el primer puesto en el Reino de Dios. Y es que el maestro quiere quedar muy claras cuáles son las condiciones para entrar en el banquete eterno.
Hay una condición necesaria para encontrar el camino que lleva a la felicidad: entrar por la puerta estrecha. Y no es que estemos muy acostumbrados a entrar por ella. Más bien, buscamos holgura y amplitud en nuestras vidas. Nos incomodan las estrecheces. Queremos comodidad. Es difícil seguir en estas condiciones a Jesús.
No nos gusta complicarnos la vida; y menos en cuestiones religiosas; expresiones como que la religión es parte de la vida privada y debe permanecer al margen de lo público, son síntoma de que relegamos nuestra conciencia y al Dios en el que creemos a un quinto plano. No podemos avergonzarnos de ser lo que somos y de seguir a quien seguimos. Es más debemos estar muy orgullosos de haber sido llamados por Cristo a esta vida nueva.
Sin embargo, hasta en el cristianismo buscamos la comodidad: si peco, pues me confieso. Pero no tenemos un verdadero arrepentimiento y un buen propósito de enmendar nuestros fallos. Caminamos por la puerta ancha donde todo es fácil y se nos da en bandeja. Todo lo tenemos al alcance de la mano; exigimos sin ofrecer nada a cambio, queremos tener favores divinos sin convertir nuestra vida. El evangelio es otro estilo de vida.
Jesús nos pide radicalidad y exige de nosotros un cambio profundo del corazón que pasa necesariamente por dejar a un lado tantas comodidades y miedos, dejar tantos infidelidades e incoherencias para caminar orgullosos a su lado, sabiéndonos portavoces de un mensaje de salvación para todos.
Ancha es la puerta que nos lleva a la perdición y estrecha la que nos lleva de la mano a Dios. ¿Cuántos se salvarán? Pues aquellos que en esta vida han amado y entregado su vida a favor de los demás.
