¡Estoy convencido de que si Jesús se paseara hoy día por nuestras iglesias repetiría alguna de las frases de este relato evangélico! Aún nos gusta que la gente nos reconozca lo bien que lo hacemos o lo mucho que nos golpeamos el pecho, o lo generosos que somos a la hora de dar algún donativo a los más pobres.
El Reino que Jesús vino a predicar, ya se lo había quedado claro a sus discípulos camino de Cesarea, -y ahora vuelve a repetirlo- es un camino de renuncia, de cargar con la cruz y de ponerse al servicio de los más necesitados. Ya sabemos que los grandes oprimen a los pequeños y que se imponen muchas cargas; no seamos así entre nosotros. El que quiera ser el primero que sea el servidor de todos.
La escena de hoy resulta cuanto menos curiosa; paseando por el templo se dedica el grupo de los discípulos y Jesús a observar a los que allí estaban; y seguramente habría de todo: ricos, fariseos, cambistas, gente sencilla… Personas que iban allí con la intención de realizar su ofrenda al Dios en el que creían. Entre ellos muchos que alardeaban de cumplir literalmente la Ley.
Las enseñanzas de Jesús, distan mucho de pavonearse delante de los demás; es cierto que en los tiempos que corren aquél que se reconoce públicamente como cristiano tiene mérito, porque al parecer la religión está al margen de la vida pública. Una cosa es vivir nuestra fe íntegramente, en toda nuestra vida y en todos sus aspectos, incluida la esfera pública, y otra muy distinta querer aparentar y sobresalir.
Una buena lección de humildad la dio aquella pobre viuda que entregó lo que tenía para sobrevivir en el templo. Sin llamar la atención, sin tocar la campana, sin poner ninguna inscripción ni placa conmemorativa; aquella mujer pasó desapercibida a los ojos de la mayoría de la gente que se hacía pasar por justos en el templo. Sin embargo Jesús se fijó en ella, en su humildad y su generosidad, y fue modelo y ejemplo para los discípulos.
Hoy día más que maestros necesitamos testigos, ya lo decía Juan Pablo II; y es que no cabe duda que una vida entregada desde la más completa humildad llama la atención y hace preguntarse qué o quién mueve a una persona así a vivir de tal modo. Acerquemos el evangelio de Cristo y la felicidad que comporta vivir según sus palabras a los que nos rodean.
