Aquella noche santa en la que Cristo pasó de la muerte a la vida, los discípulos estaban reunidos en una casa. Su actitud, humanamente hablando, no podía ser otra: tenían miedo a los judíos. Algunos días habían pasado desde que su Maestro hubiera sido juzgado por el sanedrín, condenado como hereje y llevado al patíbulo de la cruz.
Su miedo era muy comprensible, con ellos podrían hacer lo mismo. Pero de repente es como si todo cambiara: Jesús aparece, se pone en medio y les desea la paz. Y aquellos temerosos discípulos se llenaron de alegría.
No hubo explicaciones, no hubo reproches por no creer lo que les había anunciado. Hubo paz, la paz que sólo Cristo puede dar. Y sabiendo Jesús que necesitarían la fuerza que les convertiría en testigos suyos, les envía su Espíritu Santo.
A partir de ahora ellos recibían la misión de perdonar, del mismo modo que Él había reconciliado a los hombres con Dios por medio de la cruz; los que le habían seguido por el camino deberían anunciar y perdonar y reconciliar a los hombres.
Recibieron la fuerza y la fortaleza del Señor y dador de vida. El Espíritu Santo habitaría en ellos y cambiarían el miedo por la valentía de los que sienten a su Señor caminando junto a ellos.
No estaba Tomás entre los discípulos la primera vez que Jesús se mostró; y era lógico que no creyera a sus compañeros cuando le decían que había resucitado. Y a los ocho días, de nuevo al comienzo de la semana, Jesús se aparece a los discípulos. Y tomando de la mano a Tomás le hace creer de nuevo en Él. Tomás nos representa a muchos de nosotros que necesitamos ver para creer. Y hasta ponemos la excusa de que si hubiéramos vivido en la época de Jesús seguro que habríamos creído. No seamos ingenuos.
La fe es un regalo de Dios, es la semilla que ha sido sembrada en nosotros para que podamos unir la Palabra de Dios con el misterio de nuestra salvación. La fe posibilita el encuentro real y actual de Dios contigo. Necesitamos creer, creer que el Dios de la vida nos ha tomado de la mano y nos ha dicho: aquí estoy, cree en mí.
Tomás, Simón, Juan… ¿qué mas da? Hemos pasado por todos y cada uno de ellos y a todos estos discípulos nos parecemos un poco. Lo realmente importante es que nos acerquemos con la alegría que aquellos discípulos experimentaron a Cristo resucitado.
