DOMINGO 22 TIEMPO ORDINARIO
(Mt 16,21-27) La subida a Jerusalén marca el camino del sacrificio de Jesús; allí padecerá mucho y será entregado a sumos sacerdotes y letrados; allí morirá en la cruz. Este mensaje no resulta fácil de asimilar, ni para los cristianos de hoy en día, que estamos demasiado acostumbrados a ver a Cristo Crucificado, y mucho menos para los primeros apóstoles, sobre todo para Pedro, que esperaban un reinado espectacular por parte de ese Mesías.
El camino de Jesús es difícil y radical. El ya lo conoce y se lo anuncia a los suyos en el evangelio de hoy, que camina hacia la muerte. Y camina decidido, aunque los suyos no le comprendan, pues una cosa es saber cuál es el camino y otra seguirlo con fidelidad radical;
La reacción de Pedro es, en cierto modo, explicable. No se puede dudar, ni mucho menos el cariño de Pedro a su Maestro, pero aún le faltaba algo; todavía no había entendido que el camino de Cristo es camino de renuncia y sacrificio, antes de ser de salvación y de gloria. A Pedro, como a nosotros, le gustaban los aspectos amables del seguimiento de Jesús. Pero el sacrificio, no. Prefería tener a su lado al gran Sanador, que no al hombre que se sacrifica en un madero.
¡Eso no puede pasarte! No cabía en la cabeza de Pedro ni en la de sus seguidores que Jesús pudiera morir… aunque dijera que después resucitaría; no era posible… Pero los pensamientos de Dios no son los de los hombres, una vez más.
¡Quítate de mi vista, Pedro! Ve detrás de mí y sigue mis huellas, las huellas que suben hasta Jerusalén para morir en la cruz por todos; quítate de mi vista y sé mi discípulo; sigue mi camino; palabras que extrañan a Pedro y a sus oyentes.
Y es que el que no coge su cruz cada día y sigue a Jesús no es digno de Él. Acostumbrados a acumular, a buscar riquezas, posesiones, fama, amigos… el camino del discípulo debe ir por otros derroteros. Quien busque su vida la perderá, y el que la pierda por Él la ganará para siempre.
Subir hasta Jerusalén para morir allí con Cristo a todo lo que nos impide ser sus auténticos testigos: un camino que deberíamos emprender con toda nuestra ilusión y entusiasmo. Sólo así encontraremos una vida plena y feliz, sólo así seremos discípulos de Cristo.
