San Pedro y San Pablo, apóstoles
A todos nos sorprendió que la primera cosa que hizo el Papa Francisco al presentarse fuera pedir que rezáramos unos momentos por él. Ha repetido esa petición muchas veces. También la Iglesia oró insistentemente por Pedro cuando estaba en prisión (Hechos 12,1–11). La oración es siempre eficaz. Su liberación maravillosa de la cárcel tiene su correspondiente escena en la vida de Pablo, pero no en la de Jesús. Sin duda alguna se inspira en la escena de la resurrección de Jesús como liberación definitiva de las fuerzas de la muerte.
Esas fuerzas amenazadoras están representadas por los poderes políticos y religiosos, una vez más aliados contra Jesús y sus seguidores. La cárcel representa ese reino de la muerte donde la Palabra de Dios es sepultada y hecha enmudecer. Pero la oración intensa de la Iglesia muestra como ésta no se calla, al menos ante Dios. Y Dios actúa enviando un ángel, figura de la intervención misma de Dios, como en el momento de la resurrección. Su presencia ilumina las tinieblas de la prisión y hace que las cadenas se le caigan de las manos.
La obediencia total de Pedro a lo que el ángel le indica muestra su fe total en Dios. Es esa fe la que hace milagros. Era esa fe en Cristo Jesús, Hijo de Dios, la que Pedro había profesado ya antes de la resurrección de Jesús (Mt 16,13–19) y que ahora profesa toda la Iglesia con él. Es esa fe la que triunfa siempre sobre los poderes del mal.
La fe de Pedro en Cristo Jesús, que la Iglesia sigue proclamando, es el fundamento de esa promesa de perpetuidad y de la eficacia salvadora de su misión, a pesar de los ministros humanos, tantas veces indignos. Dios sigue liberando su Iglesia de los peligros exteriores y sobre todo interiores, que son los más peligrosos. Un día la Iglesia triunfará totalmente sobre el pecado, también en sus miembros, y sobre todas las fuerzas del abismo.
La misma liberación experimentó repetidas veces Pablo en su vida (2Tim 4,6–8.17–18). El apóstol, al hacer balance de su vida, descubre que Dios ha estado actuando a través de él para salvar al mundo. Es Dios el que le dio fuerzas para anunciar íntegro el mensaje, sin traicionar el evangelio. Leamos y meditemos las cartas de Pablo y descubramos sobre todo su intrepidez apostólica para seguir nosotros anunciando el evangelio a todos los paganos de nuestro tiempo.
Pablo sigue ayudándonos a ponernos en cuestión ante Dios de manera que nuestras vidas no se justifiquen simplemente por lo que hacemos sino por la fe en Cristo Jesús. Su mensaje de libertad cristiana debe constituir una llamada para todos nosotros a vivir la libertad de los hijos de Dios en el amor y el servicio al prójimo. Que la celebración de la eucaristía en la fiesta de los Apóstoles renueve nuestras vidas y renueve a toda la Iglesia.
