Domingo XX. Tiempo Ordinario. Ciclo B.
Continúa el discurso del pan de vida este domingo; y aumenta la sorpresa de aquellos que escucharon en aquel tiempo estas palabras pronunciadas por Jesús; yo soy el pan vivo y este pan es mi carne para la vida del mundo. Difícil de entender y asumir si nos ajustamos a su literalidad.
Al igual que aquellos judíos que no alcanzaban a entender el profundo significado de las palabras del Señor, los cristianos de hoy en día no nos convencemos de la necesidad de alimentarnos de su cuerpo y sangre. Recibimos una tradición que a la vez transmitimos de generación en generación. Pero esa tradición no debe quedarse en meras palabras vacías de contenido y de experiencia.
Alimentarse de Cristo va mucho más allá del cumplimiento de ir a misa todos los domingos y fiestas de guardar. Es vivir de la Eucaristía y dejarnos construir por ella. El que come su carne y bebe su sangre tiene vida eterna, porque se transforma en aquél del que se alimenta. La Eucaristía es el don más preciado que nos ha querido legar Jesús. Un poco de pan y vino transformados en alimento que salta hasta la vida eterna.
Un pan distinto al que comieron nuestros padres, un pan que da la vida; ¿quién rechazaría semejante regalo? Pues aún no caemos en la cuenta de este milagro tan al alcance de nuestra mano. Valorar la vida que se nos regala en cada Eucaristía y unirnos a la ofrenda elevada al Padre por manos del mismo Jesús es unirnos en cuerpo y alma al Señor de la vida, al enviado.
La Iglesia vive de la Eucaristía, nos recordaba Juan Pablo II; y es cierto que sin ella no existiría nuestra fe; sólo sería un mero recuerdo de acontecimientos sucedidos en el tiempo; actualizar esa entrega de Jesús en la cruz, y su resurrección, viviendo en profundidad el misterio central de nuestra fe es el modo más eficaz para sentirnos agradecidos delante de Dios.
La Eucaristía no es sólo recuerdo de la cena del Señor; no solamente hace presente aquí y ahora el misterio de nuestra fe, sino que también nos adelanta lo que viviremos en el reino de los cielos: el banquete eterno en el que Dios se comporta como nuestro anfitrión y nos regala la eternidad.
Él es el pan vivo bajado del cielo, sólo su cuerpo y su sangre nos dan verdadera vida; sorprendámonos de este milagro y vivamos en la novedad de la vida eterna.
