Como en otras ocasiones Jesús quiere compartir la mesa con los fariseos, quizá pensando que sus enseñanzas les harán entrar en razones y ver la necesidad que ellos también tenían de conversión. Sin embargo, las intenciones de aquellos que pavoneaban su religión y su creencia ante los demás no eran tan puras como el maestro esperaba.
Era grande la fama de Jesús y también Él era consciente de que todo el mundo ponía los ojos en su modo de actuar y en sus enseñanzas. Por eso la lección que hoy daba a aquellos comensales no podía ser otra:la humildad. Sobre todo porque aquellos fariseos buscaban el reconocimiento público de sus actos y los primeros puestos en los banquetes.
La humildad es la virtud por la que el hombre reconoce todo le es dado y que es nada frente a Dios. Todo es un don de Dios de quien todos dependemos y a quien se debe todala gloria. El hombre humilde no aspira a la grandeza personal que el mundo admira, como los fariseos, ni al reconocimiento público de lo que tiene o es. El hombre humilde ha descubierto que ser hijo de Dios es un valor muy superior.
Hay que buscar otros tesoros, otro modo de vida, otro estilo diferente del que quiere sobresalir a costa de todo y por encima de todos. Nos hace falta una buena dosis de esa humildad de la que sí puede alardear Cristo, que a pesar de ser Hijo, aprendió sufriendo a obedecer. Todo el que se humilla será ensalzado a los ojos de Dios. No tanto ante los hombres, que siempre buscamos esos primeros puestos, los agradecimientos y honores, pero sí ante quien dio la vida por todos sin esperar nada a cambio.
Es preciso que nos reconozcamos como criatura de Dios y veamos la igual dignidad que existe entre nosotros. Tal vez así desaparecerían tantas diferencias e injusticias como existen en nuestro mundo. Pero para ello debemos renunciar a mucho, es más, tendremos que renunciar a nosotros mismos, cargar con nuestra cruz de cada día y seguirle sólo a Él.
Un camino que se abre a los cristianos para recorrer y una vida para ser derramada por los demás, teniendo como principal virtud la humildad que no busca el tener, sino el ser.
