Vivimos en la sociedad de la opulencia y del derroche; deseamos todo, incluso hasta lo que ni siquiera nos hace falta; queremos tener más cada día basándonos en esa sociedad del bienestar que nos rodea. Sin embargo, ¿para qué nos sirve? Sólo para crear falsas ilusiones que llenan temporalmente nuestro corazón y satisfacen nuestras ansias de poder.
El evangelio de este domingo nos deja las cosas muy claras: nada nos vamos a llevar a la otra vida. Amasamos riquezas en este mundo y somos pobres delante de Dios, que quiere un corazón contrito y humilde.
Aquél hombre que vino pidiendo del maestro una sentencia firme para que su hermano repartiera la herencia se marchó con la lección aprendida: los bienes terrenos son sólo pasajeros; ¿de qué vale al hombre acumular tesoros en la tierra? Todo pasa, como dice Qohelet, nada queda; a veces se nos olvida la vida eterna a la que hemos sido llamados por Dios y parece que vivamos como si la vida aquí en la tierra fuera la única.
Y es que nos hemos metido en una dinámica del consumo tal que todo nos parece poco; queremos comodidad, buscamos caprichos, ansiamos poseer… Y lo único que todo ello nos reporta es acumular cosas innecesarias, si tenemos la suerte de obtener lo que queremos, o un deseo frustrado si no llegamos a alcanzarlo.
La felicidad abarca mucho más y tiene miras más altas que los bienes terrenos. La felicidad brota del corazón y reside en aquellos que hacen de la vida un regalo continuo. Mirar al futuro y saber lo que nos espera no viene nunca mal; sobre todo porque nos recuerda que somos caducos y que nada nos llevaremos junto a Dios; es más, tanto deseo inconmensurable puede apartarnos de la vida eterna.
No compliquemos más las cosas y bajémonos del tren express que todo el mundo quiere coger. La vida son dos días, si la comparamos con la eternidad; y la felicidad no reside en lo material, sino en aquello que brota del corazón.
