¡Qué hermosa lección para una petición tan atrevida! Los hijos del Trueno se acercan a Jesús después de haber escuchado las palabras de que aquel que deje casa, hermanos o hermanas por Él, recibiría cien veces más.
Podríamos hasta pensar que era lógico que aquellos hermanos pidieran al Maestro sentarse en su reino, a su lado; obtener un puesto de prestigio en lo que esperaban fuera un reino terrenal. No le habían abandonado cuando muchos sí lo habían hecho; permanecían a su lado, a pesar de que escucharon que el camino aún por recorrer les iba a llevar a la muerte en Jerusalén. Ahí estaban, en los buenos y en los malos momentos, por eso su petición, en principio no parecería tan atrevida.
Jesús quiere quedarles claro que no iba a ser fácil; quedaba por beber un cáliz amargo en el estómago y en el corazón; quedaba sufrimiento y abandono; por eso les pregunta si estaban dispuestos a seguirle hasta el final: y el final era la cruz y la resurrección.
Tras esta explicación surge, como no podía ser de otro modo, la envidia y la disputa entre el resto del grupo; ellos también habían dejado casa, padres, hermanos, trabajo… por seguir al Maestro, ¿cómo los Zebedeos se atrevían a pedir semejante puesto para ellos? ¿Qué pasaba con los demás?
¡Aún con criterios humanos! Me imagino a Jesús haciendo un gesto de tristeza con la cabeza: no acababan de entender; el primero que sea el servidor de todos. El que quiera estar cerca de mí, que se ponga al servicio de los hombres. Porque Él vino a servirnos a todos y a morir por todos sin distinción, sin vanagloria, sin boato, sin gloria.
Cuando los cristianos de hoy día aún estamos divididos por criterios humanos; cuando buscamos que nos echen flores por las calles; cuando queremos que reconozcan con títulos la labor que buenamente se realiza… ¿acaso no buscamos esos primeros puestos de los que hablaban los Zebedeos? Somos duros de cerviz; no acabamos de entender a Jesús: El que quiera ser el primero que sea el servidor de todos. Lo demás, vendrá por añadidura, y si no viene, pues mejor aún, puesto que no necesitamos ningún tipo de reconocimiento, sino la satisfacción de sentirnos siervos inútiles que hemos hecho lo que teníamos que hacer.
Si queremos ser los primeros, que en el corazón de Dios quede grabado el amor con el que tratamos a nuestros semejantes: ¡ese sí que sería un gran puesto de honor!
