María y José agradecidos a Dios por el regalo de la vida
Han pasado 40 días desde el nacimiento de Jesús y José y María se encaminan a Jerusalén para cumplir la Ley judía que prescribía que el primogénito pertenecía a Dios y tenía que ser presentado en el Templo como reconocimiento y agradecimiento por el regalo de la vida (Ex 13,2.12-13). Ese agradecimiento, además de las oraciones personales que cada judío dirigiera a Dios, debía visibilizarse también con una ofrenda: “un par de tórtolas o dos pichones”.
Jesús no es solo para Israel
Jesús, por su presentación en el Templo y el cumplimiento de estos ritos, pertenece totalmente al pueblo judío. Pero él no solo ha venido a ser el consuelo para Israel, sino para todas las naciones, como así lo afirmará Simeón cuando lo tome en brazos. Este bebé será luz para las naciones y gloria para Israel. Este niño es el depositario de las promesas más hermosas que Dios realizó a la humanidad desde los tiempos antiguos. Por eso Simeón descansa ahora. Porque todo aquello que había meditado en la Ley judía se cumple ahora. Porque la palabra de Dios ha tomado forma humana. Tener a Jesús en brazos, para Simeón, es creer que la esperanza de su pueblo –y de la humanidad- se ha cumplido en este niño.
Bendición y sufrimiento
Por eso Simeón bendijo a sus padres por el gozo, por la alegría que ese niño representaba. Y junto a la bendición el anuncio del sufrimiento. Estas palabras de Simeón a María son muy válidas hoy, para nosotros: ante Jesús, ante su mensaje no podemos permanecer indiferentes, o tibios, o con reservas. Ante él debe quedar clara cuál es la actitud de nuestro corazón. Jesús se presenta también hoy como luz que quiere alumbrar nuestra vida. Debemos decidir si acogemos esta luz. Sabiendo, como escuchó María, que ser de “los de Jesús” implica recibir su luz que orienta y guía nuestra existencia pero sabiendo que el dolor y el sufrimiento también forman parte de este camino. Ana, la hija de Fanuel, también era una gran creyente. Pasaba casi todo el día en el Templo y servía a Dios con su vida. Ella también aguardaba el consuelo de Israel. Como Simeón, habiendo visto a Jesús, dio gracias a Dios por el cumplimento de sus promesas en este niño.
María y José, admirados
De los padres de Jesús se nos dice que estaban admirados ante todo lo que vivieron en el Templo. Quizás sea ésta la actitud más religiosa, más creyente para que vivamos este domingo. Admiración ante el regalo que Dios nos ha hecho en su Hijo. Admiración por el don de la fe que nos permitió encontrarnos con Jesús. Admiración por el regalo de la vida que cada día recibimos gratis. Admiración por la Creación, por la naturaleza, por la bondad que reina en el corazón de la mayoría de los hombres. Admiración de nuevo por Jesús, porque, para el creyente, todo empieza y concluye en él.
