Seguramente aquellos apóstoles, después de escuchar y ver lo que Jesús obraba, querían ser como Él; pero claro, a lo grande: querían curar enfermos, echar demonios, que sus nombres fueran pronunciados allá donde iban… Querían fama. Tal vez por eso quiso el Maestro recordarles la importancia de hacer lo que debían. ¡Qué cura de humildad nos da el Señor con estas palabras tan sencillas!
Una persona humilde generalmente ha de ser modesta y vivir sin mayores pretensiones: alguien que no piensa que él o ella es mejor o más importante que otros. Humilde es quien siente pequeño y pobre ante la realidad que lo rodea; se siente pequeño ante los demás hombres, puesto que se sabe parte de un inmenso número de personas con los mismos derechos que él; se siente pobre ante la realidad que lo circunda encontrándose en un inmenso océano de creación; y se siente criatura, es decir, dependiente del Dios que le ha dado la vida.
Somos criaturas, de Dios venimos y hacia Dios caminamos; y a lo largo de nuestra vida ardemos en deseo de verlo cara a cara. Sin embargo a veces nos creemos el ombligo del mundo; nos sentimos importantes cuando hacemos las cosas bien, es más, buscamos el reconocimiento de los otros, queremos ser como Jesús… pero no para entregarnos a los demás, sino para que nos reciban entre cantos y alegrías, como en Jerusalén.
No debemos gloriarnos de otra cosa sino de la cruz de Cristo, y la cruz conlleva entrega y sacrificio; ser cristiano es vivir con la fuerza que brota del madero de la cruz y con la alegría del sepulcro vacío. Y en ese camino de tristezas y alegrías, seguimos las huellas de Dios que se entregó por nosotros.
No hacemos más de lo que debemos: somos siervos inútiles; nos entregamos a los demás porque así lo hizo nuestro Señor; vivimos extendiendo el Reino porque esa es nuestra misión; llamamos a la esperanza porque en nuestro interior está la fuerza del Espíritu. Ese es nuestro modo de vida. No busquemos más recompensas que la propia satisfacción de hacer las cosas como debemos y la alegría que nos proporciona el ser fieles al Evangelio de Cristo.
Jesús sana nuestro orgullo y nuestra ansia de poder. Seamos mansos y humildes de corazón, y así será nuestro el Reino de los cielos.
