BAUTISMO DE JESÚS
El ciclo de Navidad concluye con el Bautismo del Señor; conocemos la historia del Bautista y la misión que se le había encargado de señalar al cordero que quita el pecado del mundo. Toda la gente, como podemos leer en este evangelio, estaba ala expectativa. Pero quizá equivocados, al pensar que Juan podría ser el Mesías.
Ya desde su concepción, Juan había mostrado signos de alegría al encontrarse con Jesús; así lo notamos en la visitación de la Virgen a su prima Isabel; esto nos prepara para entender el evangelio que hoy leemos; Juan se alegra de señalar a Cristo entre los hombres, está lleno de gozo y alegría.
Sin embargo, el Bautista tiene muy clara su misión: empequeñecer para que sea exaltado el Mesías; había nacido para señalar a Cristo entre los hombres y para anunciar un bautismo de conversión. Así lo deja claro y patente con sus palabras. Yo os bautizo con agua, pero quien viene detrás de mí os bautizará con Espíritu Santo y fuego.
Un calificativo puede englobar a Juan el bautista: humilde; nada más lejos de su pretensión el sobresalir o querer apropiarse de honores que no le correspondían; ni siquiera era digno de desatarle las correas de las sandalias. Humilde y postrado ante el que había de venir, Juan empequeñece para resaltar la figura de Jesús.
Y llega el momento del comienzo de la vida pública de Jesús: su bautismo; entre todos los que llegaban hasta Juan para aprender y escuchar sus palabras y mensajes, aparece Cristo, el cordero que quita el pecado del mundo, Aquél a quien estaba Juan de presentar a los demás, puesto que para eso había venido al mundo, para ser el precursor.
Después de ser bautizado y en oración, el Espíritu Santo desciende sobre Él y la voz del Padre confirma que Cristo es su Hijo. Una nueva manifestación y epifanía de Dios a los hombres. En aquella escena comenzaba la misión de Jesús: anunciar el Reino de Dios.
Comienza ahora un camino por recorrer hasta Jerusalén; comienza la historia que nos narran los evangelistas de ir al lugar donde hombre y Dios se encuentran de nuevo, ofreciendo la nueva vida desde el altar de la cruz.
