Eso de querer sobresalir ante los demás y ocupar los primeros puestos debe ser algo que viene de antiguo, tal y como leemos en este evangelio. Jesús, con sus discípulos, se habían marchado Galilea, como a escondidas para que nadie se enterase; después de haberles revelado que el Hijo del hombre debía ser entregado, tras la confesión de Pedro y hacerles entender que debían seguir sus huellas.
Hoy tocaba aprender una nueva lección de humildad y de discipulado. Imagino que el camino sería largo y habría mucho de qué hablar; en grupos, o de dos en dos, irían tras el maestro comentando sus palabras y sus acciones; surgió la duda de quién iba a ser el más importante en ese Reino que el Maestro estaba anunciando.
No acababan de entender que era necesario que el Mesías padeciera y que el Reino al que se refería se alejaba de la lucha armada y de cualquier clase de poder. No era necesario saber quién sería el más importante, o quién iba a tener el cargo de mayor responsabilidad, puesto que su Reino se basa en el amor, y a quien ama, le da igual el puesto que ocupe.
Por eso aquel niño representó lo más sencillo de la esencia de la predicación de Jesús: el que quiera seguirle debía ser como él. En la infancia encontramos humildad, inocencia, alegría, cariño, ternura… todos esos valores que deben hacer crecer el Reino de Dios.
Aún nosotros, cristianos del siglo XXI buscamos prevalecer ante los demás; buscamos los primeros puestos, y en ocasiones, hasta nos hacemos las víctimas; el que quiera ser el primero que vaya detrás de las huellas del Maestro y que siga su camino de sacrificio en la cruz por todos los hombres.
Hace falta que demos un testimonio auténtico y purificado del Reino de Dios que Jesús sembró entre nosotros y que nos encargó regar y cuidar; sólo cuando seamos auténticos y mostremos el verdadero rostro de Dios a los hombres, con un corazón limpio y sincero, nuestro mensaje será creíble; un mensaje que no nos pertenece, sino del cual hemos sido constituidos mensajeros; una buena noticia que debe transmitirse de generación en generación: la buena noticia de la salvación.
