Lo de ofrecer pan y vino venía desde antiguo, desde el mismísimo Melquisedec. Lo que es una completa novedad es que el pan y el vino ofrecidos como signo de nueva alianza se transformen, sean y permanezcan como el Cuerpo y la Sangre del Señor. Aquí está la razón para asombrarnos por segundo domingo consecutivo, en esta ocasión celebrando la solemnidad del Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre del Señor, que es fiesta de la pobreza de Jesucristo y de la riqueza de la Iglesia.
¿De la pobreza de Jesucristo? En efecto. Jesucristo es Dios encarnado que toma la condición de esclavo, humillándose y presentándose como hombre obediente hasta la muerte. Y esto es pobreza. Una muerte de cruz, precedida de pasión dolorosa. Y esto es pobreza. Que antes de morir, anticipa su ofrenda haciéndose presente y ocultándose en las especies eucarísticas de pan y de vino, para que a nadie le falte su presencia y a ninguno de los que lleguen a creer en él, le falte su misma vida. Y esto es pobreza, la misma que cautivó, por ejemplo, a san Francisco de Asís.
¿De la riqueza de la Iglesia? El sacramento de la Eucaristía es la riqueza de la Iglesia. Y esto es así por una única y sencilla razón: la Eucaristía es Cristo mismo con su cuerpo, con su sangre, con su alma, con su divinidad, con todo su ser. El encarnado, el muerto y resucitado es la Eucaristía. Ante esta afirmación de fe, es necesario convencernos de que la pobreza de Cristo y la riqueza de la Iglesia no son cuestiones irrelevantes que puedan ser tratadas con irreverencia. La fe nos provoca asombro y el deseo de acudir a la comunión y a la adoración puros, humildes, devotos, fervorosos. No vamos a comer lo que hemos comprado, sino a comulgar a quien nos ha rescatado y nos permite vivir en amistad su misma vida.
“Dadles vosotros de comer”. Es la petición del mismo Cristo a los Doce. Al Señor, corresponde el milagro. A la Iglesia, la misión. Estas palabras de Jesús resuenan de un modo nuevo en nuestra celebración: la mesa del mundo no está bien preparada; la mesa de la Iglesia todavía no ha conseguido alcanzar a todos. El mandato de Jesús es doble: que nadie pase hambre del pan de cada día y que nadie se quede privado del anuncio de la salvación. Pidamos a María, puerta de la Misericordia, nos acompañe ahora que queremos ser comensales de la mesa del Señor.
