Jesús apareció en medio de ellos, tal y como lo había prometido: había resucitado y ahora su presencia era más que visible al grupo de aquellos que fueron sus seguidores durante varios años. Su saludo mesiánico de paz llenó sus corazones de alegría y confirmaba que era verdad todo lo que había proclamado y anunciado previamente: el Hijo del Hombre sería condenado y resucitaría al tercer día.
Pero asustadizos, como si vieran un fantasma, no acababan de creerse que era Jesús mismo el que les hablaba, el que podían ver en aquel instante. Al ver sus manos y sus pies, marcados por las heridas de los clavos, aún las dudas asaltaban sus corazones. Por eso pidió un poco de pescado y compartió de nuevo su comida con ellos.
Y a modo de la última cena, les volvió a explicar todo lo que les había anunciado: que el Mesías tenía que padecer, ser condenado y al tercer día resucitar de entre los muertos. ¡Era cierto! Se habían cumplido todas las escrituras en la persona de Jesús; y la resurrección era la promesa de Dios hecha realidad para la salvación de los hombres.
La experiencia del encuentro con el resucitado marca la historia de aquellos temerosos y asustadizos apóstoles; quizá no habían escuchado lo profundo del mensaje de Jesús; después de ser testigos de tantos milagros y acontecimientos, de tantos discursos y parábolas que llenaban el corazón de los creyentes, ahora todo adquiría un sentido más profundo: la Palabra se había cumplido, lo que habían anunciado los profetas a lo largo del Antiguo Testamento se realizaba en la persona de Jesús.
Estaba escrito en la ley de Moisés, en los libros de los profetas y los salmos… todo había sido anunciado y preparado: la salvación iba a ser realizada; y Jesús fue la salvación hecha carne muerto y resucitado para darnos vida eterna.
Aquellos temerosos discípulos tenían ahora la obligación de salir de sus miedos y continuar anunciando y proclamando lo que había sucedido en Jerusalén los últimos días; no podían quedarse callados; era necesario que lo proclamaran a todos los hombres: que Dios se había acercado a la humanidad una vez más y que nos amaba con intensa locura hasta tal punto de enviar a su propio Hijo para que muriera en la cruz para nuestra salvación.
Todos los pueblos, volviendo la mirada a Dios, convertirán sus corazones y Dios les perdonará sus pecados; la alianza realizada con Abraham, ratificada en Moisés, mantenida con los reyes y profetas, ahora se renueva de modo especial con Jesucristo: su cuerpo y sangre derramados son para nosotros la salvación.
