Cuando tuve hambre, tú me diste de comer, cuando tuve sed, me diste de beber. Lo que hagáis al más pequeño de los míos, es a mí a quien lo hacéis. Ahora, entrad en la casa de mi Padre.
Cuando yo no tenía vivienda, tú me abriste tus puertas; cuando estaba desnudo, me tendiste tu manto; cuando estaba cansado, me ofreciste reposo; cuando estaba intranquilo, calmaste mis tormentos; cuando era niño, me enseñaste a leer; cuando estaba solo, me trajiste el amor; cuando estaba en la cárcel, viniste a mi celda; cuando estaba en la cama, me cuidaste; en país extranjero, me diste buena acogida; parado, me encontraste empleo; herido en combate, vendaste mis heridas.
Buscando la bondad me tendiste la mano.
Cuando yo era negro, o amarillo, o blanco, insultado y escarnecido, tú llevaste mi cruz. Cuando era anciano, me ofreciste una sonrisa; cuando estaba preocupado, compartiste mi pena; me viste cubierto de salivazos y de sangre y me reconociste bajo mis facciones sudorosas; cuando se mofaban de mí, estabas a mi lado; y, cuando yo era feliz, compartías mi alegría.
Es preciso que nosotros llevemos esta vida, para llevar la paz y la justicia a los hombres. La obras son nuestra única manera de expresar nuestro amor a Dios. Es preciso que nuestro amor se expanda sobre todas las personas. Dios da lo que falta: el amor y la gracia.
