III Domingo de Adviento. Ciclo C.
Continúa la predicación del Bautista en el evangelio de este domingo de adviento; la gente le había escuchado, había oído sus gritos y querían saber qué debían hacer para convertir su vida y su corazón a Dios en el que creían. Los consejos de Juan exigían un cambio radical.
El que tiene dos túnicas que las reparta y el que tiene comida que haga lo mismo: un bautismo de conversión que pasa necesariamente por compartir lo que somos y tenemos, no acumulando lo innecesario; Juan tiene claro que la vida pasa y que el día está por llegar; que no vamos a estar eternamente aquí en esta tierra, sino que nos espera una vida con Dios donde viviremos para siempre.
Cada uno de los que se acercó a Juan le preguntaba qué debía hacer o cómo debían vivir. Alejarse de extorsiones, de denuncias injustas, de impuestos excesivos… aquellas palabras que hace casi dos mil años dirigió a publicanos, militares y todo el que quiso escuchar, bien podríamos ponerlas por obra nosotros hoy en día.
Lo que más llama la atención de este evangelio no son los consejos que daba para que convirtieran su vida a Dios, sino la claridad que tenía el Bautista de que debía señalar al Mesías; todos estaban pendientes de si sería él mismo el ungido; sin embargo sabía cual era su misión: allanar el camino del Señor, señalarlo entre los hombres. Pudo haberse hecho con honor y gloria, sin embargo debía hacerse pequeño para que brillara con luz propia el que había de venir.
Su bautismo, el del Mesías, serían con Espíritu Santo y fuego; no un bautismo de conversión, sino un bautismo de vida que marcaría el corazón de los creyentes con la llama del Amor de Dios. Juan así lo cree y así se lo anuncia a los que le seguían e incluso pensaban que sería él el anunciado.
Juan es hombre de paso, es bisagra entre el Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento, entre la Ley de Moisés y la nueva ley del amor. Su misión era preparar a los hombres, hacerlos despertar del sueño, animarlos a que reconocieran la venida de Cristo. ¡Qué dignidad tan hermosa y con qué humildad y sencillez lo supo llevar Juan!
Al igual que el Bautista nosotros deberíamos preparar el camino al Señor, saber anunciar con alegría lo que creemos y no avergonzarnos de ser cristianos. Está por venir quien nos dio la vida, ¿cómo vamos a recibirle? Preparad el camino al Señor.
