La economía especulativa imperante hoy día lleva a la ruina a los pequeños inversores. Esa economía que busca el lucro convierte el dinero en un ídolo. Es difícil dar el nombre de los que mueven los hilos del sistema económico, pero el Papa ha empezado a querer poner transparencia en la economía del Vaticano. El mal está entre nosotros y ese mal muchas veces no es algo natural sino provocado por los enemigos del Reino.
La experiencia del mal lleva tantas veces a preguntarse: ¿Dónde está Dios? En realidad la pregunta es: ¿Por qué hay personas dedicadas a explotar a los demás? ¿Por qué Dios permite que reine la injusticia en el mundo? Si nuestro corazón se rebela contra la injusticia es precisamente porque estamos creados a imagen de Dios “que hace justicia a los oprimidos.
Hay que tener paciencia y saber esperar, como Dios, que no se desanimó ante tantas negativas humanas. Supo usar siempre de moderación y no quiere imponer su Reino por la violencia (Sab 12.13.16–19). Dios da siempre una oportunidad para que sus enemigos se conviertan. El Reino, como la siembra, tiene sus ritmos, que hay que respetar. En el mundo de la técnica estamos, en cambio, habituados a apretar un botón y ver cumplidos nuestros deseos.
Ahora bien, Dios no permanece impasible o de brazos cruzados ante el mal en el mundo. Él está constantemente luchando contra el mal a través de los buenos. Gracias a Dios, el bien es siempre mayor que el mal, pues de lo contrario el mundo volvería al caos. Dios está constantemente trabajando en traer su Reino. El Reino tiene siempre unos comienzos pequeños. Todo empezó con un pequeño grupo en torno a Jesús. Toda la fuerza del Reino le viene de Dios y de su Espíritu. Así también a la Iglesia. Su misión es ser levadura en la masa. Lo importante es la masa, el que la masa fermente (Mt 13,24–43). Uno no utiliza toneladas de levadura. Para que la levadura realice su efecto tiene que desaparecer en la masa, ciertamente sin perder su condición de levadura que le da eficacia.
Los cristianos no vivimos en un mundo aparte, ni tan siquiera habitamos en países cristianos. Vivimos con todos los hombres, utilizamos la misma lengua y cultura, aunque cultivamos una serie de valores que nos vienen del evangelio y que creemos que son importantes para todos los hombres y para la sociedad. Sólo conviviendo con los demás hombres, acompañando su peregrinar hacia Dios, la Iglesia puede realizar su misión.
Ciertamente no todo en el mundo, pero tampoco todo en la Iglesia, es trigo limpio. Por eso es necesario un discernimiento continuo y un saber esperar y confiar en el hombre. La luz necesaria para ese discernimiento nos viene siempre del Espíritu (Rm 8,26–27) que viene siempre en nuestra ayuda. Él está actuando siempre en nuestro mundo y tenemos que saber discernir los signos de los tiempos. La celebración de la Eucaristía anticipa el Reino. En ella los elementos de este mundo, el pan y el vino, son transformados en el cuerpo y sangre de Cristo. Son signos de la fraternidad que Jesús vino a crear.
