HOMILÍA
Celebra la Comunidad cristiana la fiesta de los Santos apóstoles Pedro y Pablo. Jesús pudo haber hecho que su mensaje se hiciera realidad en nuestro mundo de mil formas diversas pero optó por elegir a un grupo de amigos que, como sabemos, le acompañaron durante tres largos años; amigos a los que preparó de una forma especial para enviarlos, más tarde, con la misión de hacerle presente a Él y a su mensaje en todos los pueblos de la tierra.
Cuando en el Credo de la Misa decimos: “Creemos en la Iglesia que es una, santa, católica, apostólica” estamos afirmando nuestra fe en la Iglesia tal como salió de las manos de Cristo. Una Iglesia abierta a la pluralidad, sí, pero fundamentada en la unidad al tener un mismo Señor, al vivir un mismo amor y al mantener una misma esperanza. Una Iglesia santa, compuesta de pecadores, es cierto; pero santa por su fundador y por la meta a la que todos estamos llamados. Una Iglesia católica, es decir, universal. Una Iglesia, finalmente, apostólica o, lo que es lo mismo, una Iglesia edificada sobre las personas, las vidas, las palabras de aquellos amigos de Jesús que fueron los apóstoles y sin los cuales no sería posible entender, en toda su plenitud, a la Iglesia tal como ha llegado hasta nosotros.
Esta fiesta nos invita a meditar, como decimos, en el misterio de la Iglesia. De esa Iglesia que Jesús quiso que estuviera presidida, en el amor, por Pedro y sus sucesores. El ministerio de Pedro y el de los Papas posteriores hasta hoy, debe ser considerado por los creyentes como un servicio a la comunidad eclesial. El Papa es un signo de unidad dentro de la comunidad eclesial. Es también, como nos recuerda otro pasaje evangélico, el que tiene la misión de confirmar en la fe a los creyentes. Misión suya es la de mantener intacta la fe que ha recibido de sus predecesores y hacer que esa Fe impregne, de verdad, la vida de los creyentes y se anuncie a los no cristianos; así como la de impulsar la unión con todas las Iglesias cristianas no católicas.
Desde luego, no es fácil su misión y es normal que, a veces, pueda sentirse abrumado por la responsabilidad que los cristianos hemos colocado sobre sus hombros. Por eso, siempre es necesario que se sienta apoyado por los miembros de la comunidad eclesial más allá de progresismos o conservadurismos de unos y de otros. La primera lectura nos decía a este respecto que cuando Pedro, el primer Papa, fue encarcelado con la intención de ser ejecutado unos días más tarde “la Iglesia entera oraba a Dios insistentemente por él”. Eso es lo que también nosotros estamos llamados a hacer. Orar insistentemente a Dios por quien hoy está al frente de la comunidad cristiana, el Papa Francisco.
