DOMINGO 24 TIEMPO ORDINARIO
(Mt 18,21-35) Fue la curiosidad de Pedro la que en esta ocasión dio pie a Jesús a dar una hermosa lección sobre el amor. ¿Cuántas veces debemos perdonar? Parece como si la misericordia tuviera un límite y un punto a partir del cual ya no se pudiera perdonar más. Jesús les hace caer en la cuenta de que es todo lo contrario: el amor y el perdón deben ser infinitos.
En la parábola que Jesús propone no se hizo la justicia humana que nosotros empleamos: el súbdito debería haber pagado al rey lo que le debía; en ningún momento se presenta al señor como un déspota o como un tirano; simplemente quiere recoger lo que es suyo. Pero fueron las palabras del siervo las que le conmovieron hasta tal punto de perdonarle toda la deuda: “ten paciencia conmigo”.
Y no le faltó tiempo a aquél que mucho se le había perdonado para encontrarse con un amigo que poco le debía; ¡qué diferente actitud! Lo estrangulaba para que le pagara el poco dinero que tenía en su contra.
Idénticas palabras de compasión las que utiliza este amigo para suplicarle que le dé tiempo; pero resultado totalmente diferente si lo comparamos con el rey; este siervo malvado lo metió en la cárcel para que terminara de pagar su recibo.
“Al que mucho se le dio mucho se le exigirá”: son palabras que nos vienen a la mente al leer este evangelio; habiendo recibido mucho amor por parte del rey, aquél siervo malvado no tuvo ni siquiera una décima compasión de la que él había recibido. ¡Estamos acostumbrados a una justicia parcial a favor nuestro!
El perdón, la misericordia, el amor… son virtudes que se deben vivir sin limitaciones. Si mucho se nos ha amado, mucho hemos de amar. Si mucho se nos ha perdonado, mucho hemos de perdonar. Acostumbramos a apuntar todo lo que se nos debe, a mirar al detalle los defectos de los demás, a juzgar sin piedad a los que nos rodean… pero no somos capaces de tener los ojos compasivos que tuvo Jesucristo, sus mismos sentimientos y sus mismas actitudes hacia los otros.
El perdón es el resultado del que ama sin condiciones, del que no tiene el hacha en la mano para talar indiscriminadamente, de aquél que se siente siervo inútil y criatura en manos de Dios. Por eso no debe tener límites el perdón: porque hemos recibido mucho más de lo que merecíamos, porque la medida que usemos la usarán con nosotros y –lo más importante- porque hemos sido amado primero con la misericordia divina que es infinita.
