HOMILÍA
Celebra hoy la Iglesia una de las fiestas más grandes del calendario cristiano. Una fiesta que está llamada a llenarnos de un gozo grande y de una esperanza sin fin, pero una fiesta que nos trae el recuerdo de la muerte, más o menos lejana en el tiempo, de familiares, amigos, vecinos, compañeros de trabajo. En este día recordamos a los santos de todas las épocas y lugares, a los que conocemos por el calendario, a los que rezamos en tantas eucaristías, a quienes tenemos una devoción especial porque son nuestros santos preferidos. Pero también somos conscientes de que, en el cielo, junto a Dios, están otros muchos, cuyos nombres ignoramos, pero que fueron fieles, justos y buenos. Hoy tomamos conciencia de esa inmensa multitud que está ya en el paraíso y que constituyen para nosotros un ejemplo y un estímulo.
La primera lectura la hemos tomado del libro del Apocalipsis, el último de los libros de la Biblia que fue escrito para confortar a aquella primera generación de cristianos que estaba sufriendo una durísima persecución. Aquellos cristianos necesitaban escuchar palabras como las que hemos escuchado: “La victoria es de nuestro Dios”. De ese Dios que recibe a “una muchedumbre inmensa que nadie puede contar, de toda nación, pueblo y lengua.” Aquellos primeros cristianos, que veían el martirio y la muerte como algo muy cercano, se sentían consolados al saber que para Dios eran “los que vienen de la gran tribulación, los que han lavado y blanqueado sus vestiduras en la sangre del Cordero, en la sangre de Jesús.”
La segunda lectura la hemos tomado de una carta del Apóstol San Juan. Él nos hablaba de una gran verdad que no podemos perder nunca de vista: somos hijos de Dios. Él es nuestro Padre que un día nos acogerá en su casa del cielo y que hoy nos acompaña en el camino de la vida. Tengamos este firme convencimiento: no estamos solos. Alguien vela nuestros sueños, nos conoce y nos quiere y no permitirá que caigamos en el vacío y en la nada. Tras la muerte, seremos acogidos por sus brazos y sentiremos la inmensa felicidad de haber encontrado nuestro hogar, a nuestro Padre y a tantos hermanos que nos han precedido en el camino hacia él.
El mejor camino que nos conducirá hacia ese Padre bueno es el camino de las bienaventuranzas que hemos escuchado en el evangelio. Si sabemos estar cerca de los pobres, consolar a los que lloran, luchar por la justicia, ser misericordiosos y limpios de corazón. Si, en nuestras relaciones con los demás, construimos la paz. Si sabemos estar alegres y contentos cuando seamos perseguidos, insultados o calumniados por ser fieles a Jesús…sabemos que tenemos la partida ganada. Pidamos al Señor que nos dé fuerza para hacerlo así y recemos por los difuntos.
