Debemos sentirnos orgullosos de ser parte del rebaño de Cristo; si tenemos la suerte de poder contemplar un rebaño, nos daremos cuenta de cómo actúan las ovejas y de cómo el símil es muy válido para nosotros; se reúnen en un rebaño, todas juntas, sin separarse; como unidas por un vínculo irrompible de tal modo que aquella que se desvía un poco, al final vuelve al grupo si no quiere extraviarse.
Cuando llega el pastor es curioso observar cómo todas se dirigen a la puerta, como esperando que las abra, que las guíe hacia verdes pastos. Escuchan la voz del pastor, saben quién es. Y si algún otro les manda algo… ellas no obedecen, puesto que saben diferenciar a quién deben seguir.
Esperan del pastor que les dé la orden para salir, para buscar un camino al que dirigirse; confían en que van a praderas donde encontrarán alimento. La ayuda del cayado y de los silbidos hace que el rebaño no se pierda, que vayan todas unidas, en grupo, guiadas por la voz de un solo pastor.
Así debe ser nuestra Iglesia. El grupo de los creyentes en Cristo; nos une la fe en el Dios que ha querido hacerse uno de nosotros, en quien ha dado su vida en la cruz para nuestra salvación; nos mueve la esperanza cierta de que Cristo ha sido resucitado por el Padre para sentarlo a su derecha y hacerlo Señor del universo. Él es nuestro único pastor, el único al que debemos seguir.
Somos el rebaño de Cristo; confiados a Él por el Padre, y nada ni nadie puede arrebatárselas; nadie excepto nosotros mismos si voluntariamente rechazamos su voz, su palabra y su mensaje. Aún así, cuando parece que nos desviamos del camino o nos apartamos por la maleza, el Buen pastor sale en nuestra búsqueda y si nos encuentra, nos carga a los hombros y se llena de alegría por haber encontrado la oveja perdida.
Valga el símil puesto por Cristo para retomar nuestro sentimiento de pertenencia a Dios y a la Iglesia. No vivimos nuestra fe de manera aislada ni individualmente, sino en Iglesia, en comunidad; necesitamos de otros cristianos que nos animan en la fe y nos confortan con su ejemplo; buscamos el apoyo en el que ha dado la vida por nuestra salvación; escuchamos el mensaje que sale de su propia boca y, ante todo, nos dejamos guiar por el camino de felicidad que nos propone.
El Señor es mi pastor, nada me falta; cada vez que rezamos este salmo la confianza aumenta, puesto que a su lado nada nos puede faltar.
