Jesús era consciente de su misión y de lo que había venido a instaurar en el mundo: el Reino de su Padre; sin embargo su tarea no resultaba nada fácil a los ojos de una sociedad marcada por normas y mandamientos que, en ocasiones, pasaban por encima de las personas. Aquellos que le escuchaban no permanecían indiferentes, o bien le tildaban de endemoniado o bien se dejaban seducir por su mensaje y le seguían.
Vino a prender fuego al mundo: un fuego de amor que no todo el mundo se atrevió a entender o aceptar. Fuego porque debe arder nuestro corazón si nos adentramos en su mensaje. Fuego porque la llama del Reino se atisba desde lejos. Fuego que purifica nuestros pecados. Fuego que arrasa con todo aquello que nos separa de Dios.
Pero el mensaje de Jesús también trae división; no todo es fácil ni color de rosas cuando se sigue su Palabra. Al contrario, en muchas ocasiones hay que luchar contra corriente, hasta parecer ingenuos cuando se ama a todos aquellos que te pueden hacer daño. Sus palabras llenan el corazón y crean un estilo de vida distinto en el que quiere oírlas e interiorizarlas poniéndolas en práctica.
Cuando realmente una persona sigue a Jesús parece que todo cambia; desde las relaciones familiares hasta las amistades y el modo de entender la vida. Eso genera discordia, en algunos casos, y burla en otros. No se lleva ser cristiano. Pero Jesús sabía que no lo era. Por eso los ponía en sobreaviso. El evangelio traerá división.
Pero si nuestro Señor pasó por ese bautismo, ¿por qué lo íbamos a rechazar nosotros? Jesús subió al calvario muriendo allí por todos nuestros pecados para reconciliar al hombre con Dios. Ahora nos toca a nosotros ser también testigos de este acontecimiento salvador de la humanidad. Y hemos de armarnos de la valentía suficiente para hacer frente a las dificultades del camino, que no serán tan arduas si caminamos con Cristo a nuestro lado.
