4º DOMINGO DE CUARESMA
Del padre misericordioso… Del hijo pródigo… Del hijo tibio… De cuántas maneras puede llamarse esta parábola tan entrañable y tan nuestra. ¿Quién no ha tenido alguna experiencia en torno a la realidad que muestra? Como es el Año de la Misericordia parece justo detenerse en la figura del padre que espera y espera a que el hijo muerto reviva, a que el hijo perdido sea encontrado. Pero, sin descuidar esta perspectiva, voy a detenerme en la del hijo mayor.
El hijo mayor o el hijo tibio. Le fastidia que su padre colme de amor al hermano que marchó de casa, desprestigiándola y desprestigiándose. En cierto modo es como Marta de Betania, que anda recriminando la toma de postura contemplativa de su hermana María. También a Marta le parece insidioso que Jesús no llame la atención a su hermana. Y a mí me da que todo esto tiene que ver con el corazón, con nuestro corazón. Un corazón que puede ser de piedra –tantas veces es de piedra– y que puede ser de misericordia –está llamado a ser de misericordia–. Tanto el hijo mayor como Marta echan cuentas y no les salen. Pero el problema no es el resultado –”Dios no sabe de matemáticas”, predicaba el cardenal Van Thuan–, sino el punto de partida: el “echar cuentas”. Cuentas con la oración, cuentas con el apostolado, cuentas con las relaciones de amistad, cuentas con las velas que se encienden a Dios (y, otras veces, al diablo). El padre misericordioso no echa cuentas, sino que comparte de corazón la miseria de los hijos y, sin forzarlos, los espera días y días a que regresen para darles todo el amor que habían rechazado.
El hijo pródigo es un pecador que ha regresado del “oprobio de Egipto”, pero el hijo mayor es un tibio que todavía sigue anclado en su falta de generosidad, en su suficiencia, en su pecado venial, en su cómoda e ilusa seguridad. Si no pido perdón, si no me acerco habitualmente al sacramento de la reconciliación, seguiré en mi Egipto o seguiré en mi tibieza. Se podría dar más vueltas, pero me conformaré con la llamada del apóstol “en nombre de Cristo os pedimos que os reconciliéis con Dios”. María, puerta de la Misericordia, también te está esperando.
