No sé si me gustaría ser la viuda del evangelio de hoy. El elogio de Jesús hacia ella es altamente deseable, pero el modo que tuvo de conseguirlo… No sé si estoy preparado para darlo todo... Aunque he conocido personas que se aproximaban bastante a esta pobre mujer, tan rica en sensibilidad por Dios y los hermanos: personas muy mayores con la pensión mínima que no dudaban en entregarla íntegramente a la iglesia dos veces al año; personas que mensualmente dan hasta sentir el tirón de la pobreza. Y también conozco a creyentes aburguesados que van a hablar de la pobreza y la solidaridad envueltos en ropa de marca y con unos coches bastante apañados. Algunos hasta ponen los ojos en blanco, como en un éxtasis, al hablar de los pobres.
Al final, lo que importa es darse uno mismo: esta viuda, evidentemente, se da a Dios. Escribía Bernanos, en su Diario de un cura rural, que creía y estaba seguro “de que muchos hombres no comprometen nunca su ser, su sinceridad profunda. Viven en la superficie de ellos mismos” y por eso, añadía Carreto que “seguramente es sólo esta superficie la que comprometen cuando pretenden amar a Dios”. Por eso, cuando en el título pregunto y tú, ¿qué das?, estoy preguntándome qué doy, de dónde doy, cómo doy, cuánto doy y por qué doy. ¿Me doy?
Sabemos que el espíritu de pobreza y de caridad son gloria y testimonio de la iglesia de la que formamos parte. Y, por eso, estamos seguros de que Dios quiere que nos ofrezcamos voluntariamente para socorrer a nuestra familia, que es la iglesia, sino a toda la familia humana. Por cierto, que el concilio Vaticano II nos recuerda que “no sólo con los bienes superfluos, sino también con los necesarios”.
En cierto modo, al faltar José, María se convierte en la viuda del evangelio: da todo lo que tiene, da a su divino hijo Jesús. Por eso ahora estamos salvados y ella reina gloriosa sobre nosotros y sobre todo.
